Position of the TPV in Canada has big implications. It moving west hurts in two ways. 50-50 isn’t as strong and therefore doesn’t hold cold air in, and it prevents ridging out west where we want it.

Ensembles overnight did not move in a good direction for the pre-Xmas storm. Rather than phasing most of the PV into the 50-50 for Monday’s storm, they want back to leaving most of it up over far NW Canada. This keeps the flow more progressive over the conus. Euro and Eps want nothing to do with it.

I wanted to launch the op GFS into the Sun when I saw it take next weekend's storm into a beautiful 33 and rain event. But the GEFS looks pretty damn ripe.

I was *this* close to yelling FFS out loud at the happy hour GFS turn a classic track into cold rain.

That seems to be the pattern today. Euro and gfs both did that. That might be the path to a light event. Seems the possibility to have the primary run under us is basically gone.
