  1. Its actually a pretty exciting storm considering its rare track. Its possible for an upside surprise with the first part of the storm if we can stay all snow and stay under heavier returns for a while. But the bread-n-butter upslope snow will definitely salvage whatever precedes it.
  2. Yes, I believe some out here may be disappointed as to how much we have on the ground Monday morning (I wouldn't be shocked to have a change or mix with sleet for a while Sunday night), only to watch the snow pile up on the backside upslope between Monday morning and Tuesday morning.
  3. Sorry booked up for the holiday weekend (weekends during the winter are tough). I may have another option if you get to the point where you're very interested in coming.
  4. Sorry I missed you. Glad you stopped in!!
  5. Would it be blasphemy if I said I was indulging in a glass of wine right now?
  6. Yes, just in time for the weekend crowd, too. Cautiously optimistic the upcoming weeks will provide more goodies.
  7. Local spotter here at Canaan Heights reporting 8.9" so far 4" in the last two hours.
  8. Sounds like you timed it well. Coming much later would have been super sketchy.
  9. You're definitely reporting more sunlight than I
  10. 5" here now! Getting 2"+ per hour rates.
  11. Over 2" so far and ripping. Gonna be a fun night.
  12. Went from sunny, to cloudy/virga, to pounding snow covering everything really quickly!
  13. Thanks! I plan to have some fun. Just looked and flakes have begun!
  14. I think Whitegrass is more than just cross country (maybe I'm not as familiar with the semantics of cross country vs. telemark). But they've got a 1200' vertical, and the locals not only free heel on their wonderful array of slopes, but also use the slopes of the two downhill resorts in the area. I believe that area will have the most "free heelers" in the mid atlantic.
  15. As mentioned, other than the two western slopes, most of Snowshoe's vertical is less than 800'. If you're looking for a "resort" feel its better than most other options (lots of condos, restaurants, shops, etc. in the Village). Another option that is an easier/shorter drive with as much (if not more) snow is the Canaan Valley area. Timberline's vertical is 1000' and is a true skier's mountain with interesting slopes. Canaan Valley Resort has an 850' vertical, I believe, and is nice as well. If you like to free heel, in between these two resorts is the mid-atlantic's premier cross country ski area, White Grass. So, three ski areas all right next to each other. Not as much resort style, most restaurants/shops are in nearby Davis and Thomas.
  16. Cloudier than it was. Should be coming soon. Crapiest winter ever so far out here . . .
  17. Timberline was 70% open today I understand. Unbelievable how they've gone from so pathetic to now having top notch snow making capabilities. That being said, the region's ski resorts need a pattern change big time.
  18. Yeah, at 3100' I'm high but low so we do well in town on still nights. I'm sure the ridges here were several degrees warmer.
  19. Temps creeping down into the 30s, maybe some flakes soon?
  20. Lol. The trip up here should be colorful, but not a whole lot left once you get above 3k'.
