  1. Favorite! Looks pretty rough going forward. MQT: It's official, with no snow on the ground at 7 am EST, this is just the 4th brown Christmas on record at NWS Marquette (since 1961). The other years were 1994, 2006, and 2015. This is the first year on record that there has not even been a trace of snow on the ground. We aren't alone; much of the US is lacking a White Christmas this year. Snow depth is below normal nearly everywhere across the CONUS. Unfortunately for those hoping for a return to more normal winter weather, the 8-14 day and especially the 3-4 week projections from the Climate Prediction Center continue to favor above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation in the UP into mid-January.
  2. In the 2015 there was under and inch and in '21 there was just a few, but no solid brown like this since I've lived here.
  3. With the expected high today of 44, it certainly does. Comparing this year and last year Christmas Eve '23 - Christmas Day '22
  4. A few nibbles and a couple small perch, nothing I kept. Up until 1998 Teal was the source of drinking water for Negaunee. It has remained a motorized free lake so not very popular for fishing in the non-winter months. There's some nice perch, walleye, and crappie. In the summer I fish the coves from my yak and have taken some nice bass. Woke up to 37 degrees, fog, with just patches of snow left. Hard to believe it's Christmas Eve.
  5. Yes. I'm cautious and know the lake pretty well. In an average winter there's up to 30+ shanties out on the ice at any given time, and at this point last season I was driving my full-size chevy truck on it.
  6. Low of only 33 overnight. Might be my last day on the lake for about a week. Ice is 4 inches but getting a little soupy. decent shot at some lake enhanced snow in about 5 days. 1.5” of snow left up at the house.
  7. This sub does pretty well without being moderated as most of us are adults but this turd needs flushed. Edit: NOT CYCLONE!
  8. Mini blast of winter was nice. Snowed 5.5 inches here with the temp hovering around 22 all day. Gusty winds certainly made it feel much colder especially considering the very mild start to winter. 10 or so miles west of here saw upwards of 7-8 inches and an area just se of Marquette received 6-7 inches. The fresh snow made for a chilly morning. Woke up at 5 am to 6 degrees and a cold house. White Christmas still uncertain. Big bust for the Northern Indiana WFO
  9. Nothing lasts forever And we both know hearts can change And it's hard to hold a candle In the cold November December Rain
  10. Record high of 53 today in Negaunee, breaking the old record of 50 set back in 1998. Snow mostly gone here at my place. Weird.
  11. I was a kid living in Indiana, but I do remember this storm. A semi-truck full of milk couldn't make it down our road due to drifting, tried to turn around in our driveway and got stuck. My Dad knew that if we didn't get it out, it would be there for days. I remember using hay and shingles from the barn under the tires for traction. It worked, thankfully. I also remember the snow hanging around otg until March that year. This storm is probably responsible to a degree for me living in the UP.
  12. That was my first winter in Marquette County, it was white. Low of 8 this morning, point now has 48 for tomorrow.
  13. I feel like Mother Nature usually balances things out and we'll pay for all the nice weather at some point, and even if we don't, there's worse things than a mild, dry winter. It's not like we were forecast this massively cold and snowy winter, and it tanked on us. This was expected. And on a positive, with little snow I can still access the trails in the woods with my quad. Getting a jump start on next seasons firewood hauling logs out to split.
  14. Blustery with snow showers today... right around 2 inches otg, however it won't last. Forecast for Thursday is 46 and 41 Friday with rain. Doesn't happen all that often, especially in the UP snowbelts but it looks like a brown Christmas this year. Here's some stats for Marquette.
  15. A December soaker today on frozen ground left snow cover in patches. Colder air now beginning to move back in with a few inches of snow expected locally (several inches more just west in the favorable NW flow.) Notice the deer are still hanging around eating acorns from the oaks around my peak. They look healthy heading into Winter.
  16. A soupy 36 this morning with around 3 inches of snow left otg. Piss poor start to winter for sure. This area running close to 30 inches below normal in snowfall. Had received over 50 inches by this time last year. Pic from last winter
  17. I received a text from another member of Eastern with the link to the new board. I had been banned from Eastern just prior to its collapse. Not sure for what anymore but it was probably deserved.
  18. With the lack of snow, ice on the lakes is great. Smooth, snow free, and getting thick quicker without the insolation. Some sheltered smaller lakes are thick enough to fish at this point. Although the ice is later this year compared to others.
  19. I was 14 when I came to the group of forums a lot of us have belonged to for so long. There are no replacement troops. This type of platform for communicating is archaic and dying.
  20. Coldest night of the season here at my house with a low of 8. Lots of hoar frost this morning.
  21. Clear, calm, 17 degrees. Northern lights dancing.
