Suppression with too much of a good (cold) thing....this reminds me of the winters of my youth in the 1970's cold but below normal snow. It was our least snowy but coldest decade in recorded history!

The follow up storm to Sunday modeled on the Euro

The latest model runs for model snow we will never have to shovel for the potential snow event on Sunday late afternoon and evening are below. Most models have some model snow - the GFS has none! That model remains a possibility.

We are back to below freezing days and nights till Friday afternoon. Maybe some flurries on Thursday afternoon otherwise dry until Saturday. It will warm to close to normal by Saturday and we should see some rain that afternoon. But big changes start on Sunday with the arrival of a strong arctic front on Sunday. With the passage of the front, we may see snow arriving by Sunday evening. Whether it's flurries or a plowable event will be determined in a few more days. Either way the coldest air of the season will arrive by Monday night and last through much of next week. Of historical note on this date back in 1912 the coldest reading in Chester County PA history was recorded at Coatesville 1SW and matched on January 22, 1961 at Phoenixville of 19 degrees below zero.

We then see a cold front crossing the area with winds increasing and the temperatures falling below freezing by evening and we then stay below freezing all work week till Friday afternoon. We stay dry this week with our next rain chances by Friday night which could start as a little snow before a changeover to rain.

For the first time in 8 days, we should see a high temperature today above freezing. Tomorrow will also be above freezing but still below average before the cold air returns again tomorrow night and we fall back below freezing until Friday. Our next precipitation chance looks to be next weekend with rain followed by snow chances as we may see our coldest weather so far this winter by next week.

Today should be our 8th straight sub-freezing day. We finally warm to above freezing both tomorrow and Monday. We go back below freezing on Monday night and will see highs only in the 20's through Thursday. We should see dry weather through the upcoming work week.

A slight over performer here in NW Chesco. It snowed from about 145a till around 6am this morning. We received 1.3" of snow. We are now up to 4.6" for January which is 1.9" above normal snowfall. Season to date we are at 7.4" which is only 1.7" below normal through today.

But still just about where we should be through today regarding snow....why do we seem to think it is a "lean" year???

When did we get so confused about where we live?? Do you know we are ABOVE normal in snowfall so far in January and less than 3" below normal for the year??
