Latest NHC track nudged a tiny bit further east with a landfall on Edisto. Out of pure self-interest I continue to wish it further east... Schools here are closed today and tomorrow, citing among other things "high winds... that will create dangerous conditions for the operation of school buses... and unsafe conditions for our walking students". My six year old is devastated. "But Daddy, I want to go to schoooooooool!! "

And it's been pretty wet out here in the western half, at least in the last few weeks. If y'all have been getting so much more... The two feet of water along the back fence finally drained on Wednesday. Was expecting it to come back but it hasn't rained hard out here so far today. Getting sick of clouds and rain and ready for some cooler fall days...

Stepped outside of work to go home and saw the haze. First thought was that they must have been doing another burn at Ft. Stewart... now I know what it was! Caught the eastern edge of that storm, good bit of wind and a little rain. Cooled things off nicely for a bit.

Now if only we could get some rain... but I gotta admit that the lower humidity has been welcome, too.

I swear, those two heavier precip areas split right around my house and passed by either side. We had thunder all afternoon with nothing but a brief shower, then this leaves us out of most of the fun...

One of my friends knows the guy (and it's in the Twitter thread too)... he had been golfing and couldn't get in the clubhouse because it was locked. I was just out in Pembroke today with some friends helping clear trees from yards. We weren't working in the heaviest hit areas but more right around the start of the track, a block or two west of the courthouse. Even in the areas we went, there was considerable damage. No photos to add unless y'all just want to see some dudes carrying tree limbs and such.

Schools here are starting to dismiss early and/or cancel all after-school activity. 10% hatched tornado and 45% wind here, don't usually see that...

It's not often that we see hail as the primary severe threat down this way...

Oh, that would be nice.... but even then, I'll take the summers here over dealing with what my wife is going to experience in Indianapolis this week. We do NOT do cold well. If I could reset the thermostat for Savannah back to 70+ after New Year's I'd do so. What's funny is that after 15 summers here, metro Atlanta (where we grew up) feels noticeably cooler even in the summer. Visiting our parents is like a break from the heat. I got fully acclimated here from spending all of summer 2015 outside building my workshop so it just doesn't bother me anymore. But back on topic, it seems things are going to warm back up into next week. Maybe it'll stay that way?

Yeah, it's getting really old. Had a break for a while before sunrise but now it's raining at the house again...

I guess I'm maybe sort of grateful for a cooler summer, but of the 16 summers I've experienced here I don't think I ever remember one with this many days of cool, saturated, overcast, rainy days. I'm not used to an August forecast having three days of 80-90% pops, either (which is our present forecast for Mon-Wed). It ain't right... I miss seeing those big beautiful pop-up CBs in the afternoon. We may not be that much above average on total rainfall but it sure seems like we are. But it's also driving me nuts because so many of these rainy overcast days have been on my days off--and then it would be nice and sunny out on days I had to work.

Yeah, even down here I don’t think my yard has fully dried up. I’ll take the warmth (seriously, I generally like warm winters—there’s a reason we live here) but please, stop the rain! (That said, a good hard freeze for a day or two would be nice, to kill off all these danged gnats...)
