  1. You're right. Just put me on mute because I don't have a stratus. If you don't have a stratus range gauge, you can't have a good meteorological discussion. Just hate to see it.
  2. Sometimes I go back to the last 6 hrs of obs and snow flake size to help. If it's S+ with good flakes, that's 2"+/hr. If I can barely make out the house across the street, it's 3+/hr. It just helps with determining what fell.
  3. I beat myself up more about measuring snow. It frustrates me when I can't get a good measurement...which happens a lot. Yet I love a good windy storm.
  4. It's true, I use my best judgement. The one I have breaks it down by 1/8" So a little more detail. Life gets busy, so I don't necessarily care too much if a whiff by a few hundredths when reporting. LOL.
  5. Nah. Truthfully, I'll probably order one on Amazon soon.
  6. Here's my snow LE judgement. If it's blowing off my roof, it's dry. If it's sagging the hemlock, it's wet.
  7. I have a standard gauge I bought at a hardware store. Does the job just fine. My forecasting will not suffer if I don't have a Stratus.
  8. Dendrite and Jspin just threw their Stratus through the window out of anger.
  9. I worked with Dale Eck in my previous role. Great guy.
  10. Thing was RI right to landfall. Buzzsaw right through gatorland.
  11. Yeah not sure why. I think it was more to the fact that we knew it was going to be bad, but no idea a CAT 5.
  12. Guy likes to be on his knees….what can I say?
  13. 850 winds perk up too. Looks fine to me. NAM has decent lapse rates.
  14. I have had some snow events where I was almost up all night prior to Katrina, but as far as watching an event unfold...it was Katrina for me. We know it weakened, but I think the flooding aspect was what I wanted to see. It sounds like a sick notion to have....but as a weather fan....you get it.
  15. I’m ready to turn the page as well. Summer of Scooter coming to an end.
  16. I do remember the initial reports in the Miami area were “this isn’t so bad..” However later on that day, they started getting reports out of the Homestead area of complete devastation. That’s when the aerial images started to appear on the news. Katrina was similar in the reporting too. “Oh the city looks to have been spared…....” A few hours later it was flooded.
  17. It will be days before another chance around here.
  18. Just lush and mowing in Tolland. Enjoy.
  19. Man Labor Day looks like Columbus Day on Euro.
