I feel like that is such a concept with tons of variables. I'd say if you have generally 20+kts for 2 hrs after any precip ends and temps above 32, you are good except for random puddles. Even that may be conservative. I know Will used to do forecasts for DPW crews so he may know more.
BOS should not even be used. There are other sites nearby, (myself, Hingham, and I'm sure some nearby north shore areas you can use as a proxy with what fell relative to normal).
Yeah I’ve seen some of those too. It’s still weird to look up and see the stupid Norway maples hold onto decaying leaves and then look at my thermometer and see teens lol. It’s like how 90 in March feels...it’s so anomalous to have this cold so early.
No snow here, but ponds getting ice is something I’ve never seen this early. It’s remarkable. I do wish we had a little more white to go along with the cold.
It’s a tough job. It very well may be just bad luck. If meteorology did not work, being a FF would have been next for me. My grandfather was a fire chief in Boston. I watched him do his job, and I watched some bad things happen too. Feel For that dept.
