  1. So that Bensalem tornado that destroyed the car dealer was rated an EF3 by the NWS... 3:30 PM: A confirmed EF3 tornado, which occurred yesterday July 29th, in Bucks County in the Bensalem/Trevose area with peak winds to 140 mph. The storm damage survey team mentioned the most intense damage was to car dealerships and an adjacent mobile home park. More details tonight.
  2. According to this map, the NWS is going to investigate the red circled areas for tornado confirmation. The pic I posted yesterday while I was driving up Route 100 could have been a tornado as it was in the one zone slated for investigation.
  3. Yeah, I was a bit surprised at the total. 0.92" to be exact. The rain I drove through after taking those pics on route 100 yesterday was incredibly intense, though. The area near the Lehigh Valley Zoo (Trexler Game Preserve) had to have gotten 2-3 inches. Even farther outside our area, check out this video from inside the shop area of that car dealer that was hit in Bensalem... And the aerial footage of the damage afterward...
  4. It seems like so often, on our best severe potential days, we battle persistent cloudcover.
  5. The bolded part is Tamaqua severe weather in a nutshell. For every 10 storm events, 9.5 almost always seem to do that here.
  6. I'm not sure if anything was embedded in the clouds in the second pic, but a nice shelf cloud dropped down to the ground just northeast of where I was driving on PA100 north of Fogelsville/Allentown. It was a tornado warned storm, though.
  7. I haven't seen a severe storm yet this season, so I want mine...lol
  8. Thanks! I didn't know which, if any, models had a smoke product.
  9. Do we have smoke/haze tomorrow too, or does it clear out some?
  10. Yes it does. It's really bad. Tree lines less than a quarter mile away are even hazy.
  11. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice a hint of smoke odor in the air today?
  12. Spot on. Clicking on my location showed 0.22" and I actually had 0.25" in the gauge last night for a 0.03" difference.
  13. Well, the weather gods said, nope, nada, no way... I should really be used to this by now, but with each potential severe event, I hope for the best. Of course, that rarely happens in my neck of the woods. Some places attract storms like a magnet, and others repel them like teflon. Tamaqua is a teflon location.
  14. They certainly are! Even the CTC lightning is impressive. I've never seen anything like it. It'll start in one direction and then spider out across the sky in all directions.
  15. Yeah, but it certainly doesn't verify the Severe Thunderstorm Watch/Flash Flood Watch that was advertised all day. As a weather junkie I want the big storm with the 5" per hour rates, insane CTG lightning, and at least moderate wind. It's not unlike wanting the blizzard jackpot in the winter. This place is the most boring weather location I've ever lived in, and that includes Phoenix where it's dry most of the year. At least the monsoon storms were potent, powerful, and impressive.
  16. 0.18" so far. Everything pushing Northeast faster than it's moving east. We actually have clear skies to my southeast right now. I don't think I'm scoring with this event either. Same old same old...
  17. I'll tell you, I honestly think the best events come when there are no watches or warnings or hype. It just does what it does. Everytime it's hyped up in my area, all I get is a letdown because it either failed to materialize, weakened, or split. And future radar seems to want to point in that direction. Most of the activity is depicted to parallel I-81 and fringe my area, with just residual leftover showers behind it.
  18. Lots of cell activity around Tamaqua, but not a drop or a rumble yet today.
  19. One of the most insane PWS's I've checked out today was in Whitehall Township near Northampton in the Lehigh Valley... 93.7 °F Feels Like 116.1 ° DEWPOINT 81.0 °F
  20. 93/75 here now with a heat index of 103. Pretty uncommon to be so warm AND humid up in my region...
  21. 90/72 for a heat index of 98 at my house. I decided that since it's so hard to get a good storm in my backyard that I would get mine and my wife's Jeeps washed. I figure that will insure that we get a good rainer today.
  22. Thanks! Indoor supper is already planned. The wife and I are taking a good friend out to dinner at the Tamaqua Train Station Restaurant tomorrow night.
  23. But where? Area wide, or localized to the LSV, Mason-Dixon Line, Lancaster area, etc.
