Yup. Snowing in Tamaqua and Hazleton. I had a hell of a ride just to get to the truck. Quarter sized flakes and a Jeep with recessed LED lights meant that they caked up with snow. I got the "star wars" effect, but I couldn't see the road worth a damn...

We had quite the snow squall right as I was picking up my first loaded trailer this morning. Wind blown, sideways falling, near whiteout "blizzard" for a time, which caused chaos on 81. A seven car, one tractor trailer crash southbound killed one motorist and had the freeway closed for 6 hours. Ironically, it was a slick overpass and not visibility that caused this one. Detouring through downtown Hazelton with a 53' trailer was not exactly on my to do list, but it's what I had to do, twice, to get my other two loads for the day

I don't know why there aren't any windmills in the industrial park by Hazleton. It's always windy in/up here.

Yup. Even here. I registered a 17 mph gust today, which I higher than anything in the past wind events. That 38 I recorded back in October was likely (per a NWS post on PWS's) a bird that perched on the station.

I was driving bus back then and since we weren't super busy, I had a scheduled day off that day. Our lady driver wasn't so lucky, and had an NYC run that day. She said she had one hell of a drive back home that evening. I screenshotted Google Maps around supper time when it was the worst, and I'd not before (nor since) seen that many red roadways. It was a region wide driving disaster. The only other time it might have looked as bad, or worse, would have been VD 07, but I don't think we had Google Maps back then.

All right guys. Here's my snow shower video running up to New York on Tuesday. Nothing crazy as far as winter weather goes, but the first snowfall of the season usually causes problems on the freeways... Make sure to change the video quality to at least 1440p for best video quality.

Everyone I talk to is already sick of all the windy weather days.

The now again closed off topic section of AMWX is a prime example. Some of the worst behavior I've witnessed took place over there. I literally cringed at some of the posts I'd seen.

Yup. I was up there yesterday and can verify. I was estimating from the windshield of a Mack truck, but I mentioned in my upcoming video that it looked like at least 2 inches along I-81.

Nothing snow-wise here in Tamaqua, but I saw quite a bit of it from Scranton and north on 81. The roads got rough for a bit up there. I went to Waverly NY, and saw two rollover wrecks. A pick up truck on its roof in the median, and a car on its side in a ditch. Also a few spinouts into walls on the bridges.

Guess I might see some snow on the ground tomorrow. I deliver in Waverly NY then go over to Nichols to reload a backhaul back to Hazleton.

Forget what I said about the Tempest station being a good unit. We had a good heavy rain here today, and every station around me recorded at least a half inch including the USGS gauge. The local readings ranged from .46" to .82" with one a block away from me reading .66" My station recorded only .21" Even the wind seems wonky. I'm learning that my location is just not going to see many gusts over 20 due to the nearby homes and mountains. Not sure how I got that 38 mph reading a couple months ago, but I don't think it actually happened. I think I'm going to go back to a traditional station, hopefully by the end of the year.

Wow...the wind is wicked up in Hazleton (Humboldt Industrial Park) today... It literally ripped the truck door out of my hand when I opened it. Meanwhile, here in Tamaqua, just a light to moderate breeze. I've got to wonder. At 1,500 to 1,800 feet does that area sit at just the right elevation to be in some sort of upper level jet?

My coldest so far was 28.0 on 11/7. So far this morning, at 3:30am, it's 28.2

Yup. I had that spike too. Went up to 65 pre-front.

My peak gust was 18.9 mph just after 1:00am according to my station.

How do you get those high gusts? Are you on a ridge top? Open area? Even on the windiest days, I can barely get to 15 mph.

Sheesh, and I thought TODAY was windy...
