  1. Well it certainly wasn't one of the best in years (unless you're east of my location)...lol

It came in rather benign, even though the sky looked ugly and mean. There was no lightning or thunder to precede the event at all. As the dark cloudds rolled in, the breeze picked up and we had a few fat raindrops. then the rain stopped and it got rather calm. Then another breezy gust that accompanied by some rain and a bit of hail. then it stopped again. Then the "main show" hit, which was when I made my previous post. The breeze became stronger and the rain came, along with some pea sized hail. It was a torrent for about 15 minutes, then lightened up to what we have now.

As for the lightning and thunder, once the line moved east of my location it became a noisy storm, so in typical fashion (but not as pronounced as other storms) the line weakened as it arrived at my location, and re-intensified to my east.

Yes sir, and the southern flank is moving much slower. Us down here near the M/D border are going to get drenched tonight...

I just read the warning for Lycoming and Centre County and it stated the line was moving at 60 mph and gusts in the cells were 70-80 mph...

Where is Wmsptwx at? Lycoming county is getting wamboozled right now...

The outflow boundary blew him down to Lewisburg...lol

Seriously though, that line is really moving. Thunderstorm warnings are hoisted as far east as Berwick already along  I-80, and tornado warnings from Muncy Valley to Dushore...

  4. Be it winter or summer, the Mason-Dixon line seems to be the place to be. It sure looks like we'll be in the cold rain portion of the storm, while south of the Turnpike sees the best storms later today...

I typed that yesterday, but didn't post it, but it looks to be true. We've been cloudy, cool (61f), and dreary all day since this mornings rain. The band from the north is slowly pushing down, but the good stuff does indeed appear to be popping in the warm sector in south central and south west PA. The temp map on my phone app clearly shows the cool wedge of air over east central and northeast PA this afternoon, limiting us to not much more than a cool, synoptic rain event...

Nice weather pattern developing that should make most happy. Sunny, milder days (though still below normal) and clear, chilly nights look to be in store into the middle of next week.

    Sounds good to me!

Weekend aside, the forecast looks dreary and dreadful. Highs in the 40s and no sunshine to speak of. Will the pattern ever change at this point? Will we have to wait until June for any real warmth?

The year without a summer, 21st century version. I know some of you would just love that...

Bitter here in Hazleton yesterday with flurries with some steady snow coming later today/tomorrow...then 70 later this week...going to be fun week of weather swings.  Seem as though we get less and less spring/fall...and it's basically down to two seasons...Winter and Summer.

And sometimes we barely have a summer. I remember a couple years back where it seemed like it was almost always rainy/drizzly with temps barely making it to 65 or 70 on a lot of days.

It’s hard to believe that with this radar & the cold air coming back in tonight that something would not work out to deliver snow to us this weekend. Maybe we will get a last second miracle ?

What's harder to believe is that a national radar could look like that on April 6th...

MDT has had a few gusts over 50 today, many - many - over 40. Still sounds like my roof wants to lift off. Wind sucks.

Those winds almost blew me over a couple of times down on 81 south of Carlisle. Little branches we're blowing out of the trees and hitting the truck. It was the worst wind I've driven in in a long time.

Now safely parked in Blacksburg, SC. What a difference a few hundred miles makes. Down here the grass is green and growing, and while most trees are budding, they are green, and some are leafed out already.

Hopefully I can get back Friday night and be safely at home for the Saturday storm.

I enjoy this forum because for the most part there is a level of civility, unlike the MA/NY/PHILI forums.  Some long time posters know each other well enough that they can laughingly take little pokes at each other and can take the ribbing.  Some of us come here because we are snow lovers.  We always want to be in the jackpot, always want to believe things will come together for our area, love to break record highs/lows/amounts.  We look at snow and the possibility of snow with the enthusiasm of a child hoping for a day off of school.  Some of us are proudly weenies.

Today, maybe because we are facing the reality of the end of our snow season, the civility is missing. Can't we all play nicely?

    This is a good post.

What I bolded in the quote is pretty much spot on. We all know each other on some level and each others "quirks" for lack of a better term. Everyone here knows I'm the biggest Warmanista there is, yet they all accept me for who I am, and why I'm a warmanista (which is because I'm a tractor trailer driver). They also know that. in season, and if I'm off work and sitting in my house, I will follow and root on a good snowstorm. The only civility that's missing is from the "snowsux" guy trolling.

That being said, I was hoping for a west coast trip this week, but instead I'm leaving out tomorrow for a run to Atlanta and then to Greenville, SC for a backhaul to Mountain Top, PA.

Looking at the latest GFS run, my Saturday may be a white one as I'll probably be coming up I-81 out of Virginia that day.

  11. Got woken up by the power going out, then back on, so a bit out of sorts at the moment. An eyeball look at conditions outside, I'd say about 3-4 inches on non-paved surfaces and 2-3 inches on the roads and sidewalks. Moderate snow falling.

At HersheyPark with kids and it’s 57F in the warm sun.

Can’t believe in 12 hours there will be 1” per hour rates.

    .

Even up here in Tamaqua it's nice out. I was playing bean bag toss outside with the grandsons this afternoon.
