  1. Cloudy, cold, but today we get out of the deep freeze with temps a 31 for a high. 10-day forecast showing temps near 50 for a day or so right before Valentine's Day.
  2. IMBY, we got 6" or so. The dry air took some time to overcome, it would seem.
  3. Probably a good idea. Watching radars in the region to see how it develops.
  4. Watching developments for S OH with trepidation. NAM shows 8-10”. All others GFS, HRRR, RAP, and Euro show in excess of 12” up to 22”. I fear the NAM may be on to something. I hope I’m wrong.
  5. It looks like the storm maybe struggling to overcome the dry air in S OH. “Future radar” showing snow not starting here in KILN until very late in the day.
  6. I was living in Fort Worth, TX for the 2021 storm. They had planned "rolling blackouts" to conserve the grid. First rolling blackout came at about 3am, there was nothing rolling about it. It was off for 12 hours, came back on long enough to get the house warmed up a little, and then go out again. I don't wish prolonged power outages on anyone.
  7. That's what it looks like. First snowstorm for me in a couple of years. (I was in TX for the Feb '21 debacle.) Nebraska winters were boring when I was out there. My wife is from the Dayton area, we moved out here to be as close as possible to her father. NE of Cincy here. Currently on leave from work, so I get to just sit and watch the snow as it comes down. BTW - KILN calling for 7"-11"
  8. Yep. NE burb of Cincinnati, moved here in September.
  9. That would be something. Temps for the weekend don't get above 20, and are single digits in the overnight.
  10. Okay, so we are going to get more than what the WPC shows. I guess I best get a few things from the store...........
  11. I have seen several maps showing over 10” for KILN, felt that the totals were overdone. I may have been wrong in that assessment.
  12. Changing my 2”-4” to 6”-8” for Cincinnati. Meanwhile two of my sons are prepping down in TX for what looks like repeat of 2021. (I was there for that one)
  13. 72 hours ago, S OH was in for maybe a couple of inches, according to the GFS, etc. Now we are on tap for 8? 10? It’s been a fun storm to track for the last day or so.
  14. Yeah, moved here in September of last year. Was in Nebraska for 2 years, and then before that, I was in Texas for 3 years. Moved to Nebraska in 2023 to marry the woman I have been best friends with for 20+ years. Since I am in the Ohio Valley, and with the upcoming storm, I figured I would jump back on the site here, and see what is going on. Good to see all of the familiar names are still around.
  15. I hope for a bump or two north. Cincy needs some snow. Sun and bitter cold, as mentioned, is not a good combination.
  16. Overnight lows in the single digits here at KLIN, with daily highs for the weekend in the low to mid teens. Seems the big storm that I have been hearing about misses this area completely.
  17. Cold but no snow here in KILN-land. Temps going to be pretty cold through Wednesday.
  18. It looks like Omaha gets a decent dump. I’ll follow this thread here because it’s got the best info. Locally they are talking 11”-13” here in far E Nebraska.
  19. okay, so I am from Chicago, just relocated to Fort Worth last October...... I am so not looking forward to this. (I should be used to it, though, right?) Right now, IMBY, sun is out, 33 degrees.
  20. I never thought I would ever see a death toll that high either., but then, we were dealing with a strong system, and the consensus was that strong tornadoes were going to come out of it. I just wish they would have torn up some farm fields instead..... I was looking at the Birmingham, AL NWS office website, and they have a map of their CWA, and they had as many as 11 confirmed tornadoes in their CWA alone. I remember the speculations that it would be a rough severe season, makes me wonder if I want the sever potential to shift to this region.. Looks like we are in a quiet pattern for now
  21. In 1967, the population density was still mainly concentrated in Cook County... Much of DuPage, esp. western Du Page, like Naperville, Wheaton, and other towns were still considered "the sticks" back then, because large parts of DuPage were farmland. Same for Lake Co IL as well. Will Co. outside of Joliet was farm country as well. 44 years later, and DuPage has a large population as do all of the other counties around Chicago. I remember going to visit family friends who moved to Lisle in the mid 70's we used to drive I-5 (now I-88) out there, and all I remember seeing was farms, and open land. The area started to really grow in the late 70's through the 80's. If an EF-4 touched down at say, I-55 and Route 53, and tracked NE even for 10 miles, the damage, and loss of life would be horrendous. If it tracked farther say 15-20 miles, it would be grinding through a very densely populated area not only full of people, but industries as well... I don't even want to think about it.
