  1. What a complete shitshow the Mass RMV is. I have never had any real negative interaction with them until now. We have been watching them send my mother in law to an early grave.
  2. The humidity today might warrant it. Ours are all out away of course. But I wouldn’t mind turning it on if I had central air. Just to dry things out.
  3. Also, for Hippie, not sure if you like old Prog rock, but Rick Wakeman is playing a solo thing at the Northampton music hall thing…he was the keyboard player in Yes and on some Bowie recordings (Space Oddity). I was considering going but something else came up
  4. Any idea if the number of undocumented workers is higher or lower or the same as pre-pandemic? In my head I feel it is lower but I really have no idea.
  5. Not a huge chunk but around 175-225000 working age people were lost to something we can’t discuss here. Granted some were not working anyway. But who would want to work the service industry jobs now where the public is basically spitting in your face?
  6. That would explain it. I have not seen many of the Asian ladybug things at least. Maybe those will go away too
  7. On a completely unrelated note, were stink bugs/potato bugs/ whatever they are called always so prolific and large? I don’t recall them growing up.
  8. Working for $400 per week would suck for many. For a high school kid living in a low cost area maybe but not for most adults.
  9. US unemployment is down to 4.8%. Not amazing but not terrible. But we do know those numbers are very misleading. Typically if you have less than 5% it is decent. Wages and inflation is the bigger issue. They really need to tame the latter.
  10. Keystone was for exports anyway... shale sands --- refineries
  11. We were able to secure the same number of gallons of heating oil as the previous year for only about $16 per month more than the previous season (which wasn't bad). The mild temps this autumn will help as well for my house
  12. Heating oil prices went way low in March of 2020. The others not so much
  13. The fuel oil one is interesting, because the price of oil cratered at the start of the pandemic. I don't know the other energy types, but I assume it is the same. Obviously it is costing a lot more vs 2020, but 2020 was a lot less than 2019, 2018, etc. You have to go back to the late 1990s to find similar prices when adjusted for inflation.
  14. Regarding the truck drivers... the shortage was starting before the pandemic. I recall reading articles about a looming shortage due to retirements and not being able to replace them, several years ago. The pandemic sped that up quite a bit.
  15. We can't find janitors, my building is short a few. But the city pays those poor folks a terribly low wage. Not $22 an hour by a long shot.
  16. Yeah. I saw Fish mention something like that. Hope it works out
  17. Too bad Saturday/Sat night will be rainy. A bunch of outdoor stuff going on
  18. My classroom was a bit tepid this afternoon. Window open as much as I can and the heater was blasting. So dumb.
  19. Also, due to a later than normal switch of the old Fall Back with the clocks, sunrise on Nov 6 will be something like 7:25AM. Wheeee
