  1. Worldwide this has killed about 2.9 million people. Third worst since the Black Plague in the 1300s (including HIV/AIDS which was over a longer period of time). Still a pretty big deal. Many(not all) of the precautions etc were warranted.
  2. Brazil. They had like 4200+ deaths the other day. Worse than any US day with 2/3 the population
  3. As Phin and others have said, the long lasting damage isjust starting to manifest itself. One thing that is really showing is how some parents are really not able (for whatever reason, in many cases not their fault) to help their kids... they were 100% dependent on the physical school building and the staff being there for their child. The resiliancy of many kids is astounding though. As we get more and more back, more and more kids will be getting better. It won't fix all ills, but it is something. Not sure how we will fit them all into the cafeteria though...
  4. It is pretty bad in hockey too https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/04/hockey-cte-todd-ewen-brain-injury/587818/
  5. I could see LWM of BED in that range fer shure
  6. I seem to remember that they reported his brain was in the worst shape of anyone his age they had examined
  7. My comment was mostly tongue in cheek but I see your point
  8. I really want snow days back next year...and snow
  9. I do prefer to differentiate my home and work life... although I have been doing more work at home after hours/at night... I also don't mind my commute, probably because it is pretty short (30 minutes) with not much traffic most days.
  10. Yeah... that is the best way, and to do it outdoors, but really hard to do in a stage production...or in a wind ensemble, etc...
  11. Today, we had to endure a similar meeting, but since it was online, I could multitask and get some work done. This would not work (and would be frowned on) in a large setting.
  12. Some more... again, this was early on, which is why I was wondering about newer studies... https://academic.oup.com/cid/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cid/ciaa1241/5908276 https://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/article/could-singing-spread-covid-19
  13. This is a collection of studies referenced... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7808728/
  14. Yep. Infected people expelling lots of viruses no bueno. There was an early (like March 2020) case in Seattle where a bunch of choir members all got the 'vid at a rehearsal. A couple died. This lead to research... I will see if I can drag some up
  15. I do hope my staff meeting, etc can continue online... I hated gathering with everyone (70+) people and basically watching a Powerpoint or some such nonsense. Talk about a lack of productivity.
  16. Any new science related to singing and Covid? We have a teenage daughter who is a theater/performance arts bug. This has been really rough on her
  17. Lots of people still want the vibe of living in a city. Once the initial shock of the pandemic had receded living there continued to look attractive for some.
  18. That’s true. I hate that game but it makes sense for them to do so I miss half gallons of ice cream.
  19. Is that considered a big loss for them? I honestly have no idea. To me it’s obviously a lot of $$$ but for the VT it is under 10% of their annual avg. Is it much worse than a bad snow year?
  20. We could go into a huge discussion about how Big Food definitely wants people eating less healthy and in bigger quantities than ever. What we consume as Americans (I’m guilty here) is obscene. Not to mention unsustainable. And now I’m craving steak.
  21. And my apologies to losetoa6.... I always read his/her screen name as "Lose-a-toe"...
  22. Another option is like what my building is doing. For parents who want kids home (for the remainder of this school year), a set of teachers is teaching them exclusively. I will have all of my kids in person (right now I have half at a time...splitting the week) with none of my kids remote. In the fall, I expect 100% of the kids to be either in the building or in some other type of program... there have been online schools for a while...maybe those that want to stay remote join those? I got so excited when I had some of my lab tables returned to my room today...even though hands on labs will be near impossible with 28 kids in the room. Anyway, lunch over...back to work
  23. March and April are reversing those trends.. in Mass, all elementary are 5 days a week starting this week (my hometown has been 5 days a week since the start of the school year). Middle schools and HS by April 28
  24. I worked from home for a little bit over the winter. It was awful for me. Today is the second to last "full remote" day for my district. (4 days with kids in the building,1 with kids at home) It sucks so much. I so prefer the kids in person. I find it pretty close to double the work (we are doing hybrid) - preparing for both in person and at home kids sucks.
