As of mid April of the 75,000,000 people who had been vaccinated, 5,800 had gotten Covid, and 74 had died as per the CDC. That is dying by Covid. I have not seen data for deaths attributed to the vaccine itself, but if we are now at 150,000,000+ having been at least partially vaccinated and 340 have died from that, well, that's pretty low. I can't find reliable data, so I will trust your numbers. On the other hand 1.5 million children (edit... as of early May 3.6 million) have gotten Covid, and 340 have died as per your numbers Edit - WSJ reports 279 deaths, so even lower. (I will trust them). Very low chance of kids dying from the 'vid, but probably much lower chances of them dying from the vaccine. It is obviously way too early to tell if there will be any long lasting affects from vaccinating children with a new vaccine. The physicians and microbiologists seem to feel the odds are very low... they could be wrong.

Our 14 year old has been wanting to get vaccinated from the get go. For this I would not force her to get it. She is pretty savvy about this type of thing and understands potential risks long term. I also won’t talk her out if it or deny this plus she wants to travel with us this summer and the place we are heading to requires it.

I would have been dead for 23 years. That’s a lot of snowstorms to miss

One downside to some of the trades is that it can take a heavy physical toll on the body. Knees, backs etc depending on the type of work.

We take them outside for mask breaks (weather permitting...but just about every day). Some kids won’t take them off. Strange. They don’t wear them at lunch either. The funny thing is we hadn’t been able to take them out in years past (for a few years at least). So that’s a win

I’m thinking that too. Im hoping by August we can drop them in schools (I doubt it happens this school year)

There will never, ever be a shortage of demand for good electricians. Our son’s best friend is doing an apprenticeship and takes home more per week than I do (the kid is 19...go figure). Lives at home too.

Meh... benefits are good. I don't mind the money at all. This year sucked donkey balls of course though. If they doubled my salary for next year but said it would be a repeat I would quit and get a job washing dishes at Wachusett

One program that I felt was pretty well done (but is currently on pause due to the 'vid) is something called Project Lead the Way. It can be done at all grade levels but we have been doing it in the middle school here. The unit I would teach is called Automation and Robotics. Simple mechanics and programming in a weird version of the C+language. They can then easily apply that knowledge to high school classes or focuses that are more hands on. Other units involve basic biomedical stuff, CAD/CAM

In Mass at least they could probably double the number of Vocational / Technical High Schools and fill them

Our son went to our local Voc school (2019 grad) for carpentry. Very difficult to get in. There is always a waiting list. A majority still go to college which is interesting. He is now doing a Construction Management major. Starting a summer internship which will pay a bunch of his next fall semester. Some of his friends who went right into the trades are pulling $60k-80k as 20 year olds. I've been doing my thing for over 20 years now and still don't make $80k...lol, despite degrees, a union, etc

I was talking to some of my students about sports and masks. For baseball they need masks in the dugout/on the bench. In the field they are typically distant enough no mask needed. For soccer you tend to be right next to people a lot. But that has to be hard to play in a mask. Same with some other sports

Yeah... I never understood the idea that homeschool kids were less social. The ones I know had the gamut of personalities and successes/failures that "regular" school kids show. The quirkiness of kids in general is just unreal. Some are like miniature accountant adults, others should be in the circus. Not sure which I prefer... probably the circus ones...lol

Agreed it is not the way things should be under normal circumstances. Hopefully this will be the last pandemic in our lifetimes. The kids I see seem to be "normal", but I did not know them last year, and who knows how this has affected them psychologically. I really don't think it would have been wise to have it be like Sept 2019 though

Our school has been really trying to keep things as normal as possible. But CDC guidelines translate into state education leader guidelines that have been tough to negotiate. Kids can talk to their friends here to some extent, but we have to work to keep them from huddling up together (for now). Hopefully this will get easier on them as we move forward. I know evey school and district has done this differently

Our son's gf works in our local hospital.. she says right now there is a decent uptick in the number of Covid patients there. But zero have been vaccinated people. Small sample though

I’m getting around one student per week being out for Covid. Either themselves or someone in their household. But def way down. No adult I know in quite a while
