  1. I think in a lot of cases they have to sign up ahead of time with their contact information to get a spot and appointment. I know one of my friends did that today so he could get tested tomorrow since his girlfriend is getting tested with common allergy symptoms she is worried may be COVID-19.
  2. In a lot of cases they can’t quit their jobs for the full benefit anyway, but that’s part of the problem. I like your idea of $300-400 additional, I suggested that on AmPol and the results weren’t pretty.
  3. Anyone else hear or experience a situation where anyone was about to be tested, chose not to proceed due to wait times, and received a call shortly after that they tested positive? I heard two of these kinds of stories secondhand this week. I find the sources to be relatively trustworthy too. In one case it was a family of three and each of them got a call so I don’t think it could be a simple mixup with someone who actually took the test.
  4. Regardless of how you feel about min wage laws and the like, if we’re going to continue to hand out an additional $600 a week to the unemployed in addition to standard unemployment, we should also make sure the service industries are adequately compensated in a manner where they are not making less than those who are unemployed. Maybe call it an increase or added hazard pay.
  5. What you have to consider is it's summer and more people have free time because they're out of work. If they have the means, there isn't a better time to go on vacation. Of course, Disney World in summer would not be my idea (though I do enjoy it in the nice weather times of the year), a lot of people have been chomping at the bit and feel it's safe enough given the protocols, the masks and a lot of your time is spent outside.
  6. I will say this: for a lot of people with flying anxiety wearing a mask, thus reducing the flow of oxygen, would exacerbate their anxiety. Of course, in general there is a push to have fewer people travel due to Coronavirus, so I suppose if the airlines lose customers due to this concern (and it is a valid requirement because planes are breeding grounds for transmitting illness) they view it as a cost of doing business.
  7. It’s not fun but I will say it’s not too much of an inconvenience unless you have asthma or other breathing problems (and in 90+F heat).
  8. He wouldn’t be talking about someone who is considered obese due to huge muscles adding weight. To use a golf example Bryson DeChambeau sounds like a similar comparison to your body type bulk wise, but he wouldn’t be at a high risk most likely because he’s young and he is a heavier weight due to working out and protein shakes.
  9. Interesting, I was watching his tournament today and must have been away at the time because I did not catch that. Did he say what month he thought it was?
  10. For the American posters you’re most likely right. I can’t speak for the Ontario folks.
  11. Ours are closing due to poor water quality/possible bacteria.
  12. Who knows at this point? We can all say we know the progression of COVID-19 over the next couple years but none of us do, only educated (and some uneducated) guesses.
  13. Your lawn must be getting a good drink today; I see a 2nd thunderstorm has just taken aim on Grand Rapids today.
  14. In this pattern this week it’s uncanny how the biggest pop ups tend to be near major cities.
  15. Haven't had many NW flow setups yet, but this could easily be a decent one.
  16. Yeah we got a quick downpour like that in the Milwaukee area today too, 5 miles away it looks like they had a quick quarter inch in about 15 mins and not a drop here. Luckily we don’t desperately need rain at this point.
  17. The case numbers are worthy of a freak out, but most of the rest of the states' numbers aren't worthy of a freakout..at this time.
  18. Do you ever get the inverse of lake breeze thunderstorms, at least for counties adjacent to the lake? In your case it would be light easterly winds (or similar component) giving way to west winds off the lake.
  19. Western Lower Michigan seemed to do decently with storms in May and June, but this July pattern and lake shadow appearance looks to do them little favors. I guess this persistent ridge and common SE/E flow is the main culprit.
  20. Yeah, I don't see a widespread drought concern like 2012 was for a time. There is enough moisture in this initial wave of heat to spark off storms in most sections of the Midwest. If the next wave of heat next week loses the moisture aspect, that may differ.
  21. Agreed, but I can see the lakefront areas in cities like Milwaukee and Chicago featuring everyone doing their own thing, generally spacing, and having this requirement there will not go over well when they have to pick and choose who to cite. Most outdoor events in Milwaukee anyway have been canceled. Basically every decent sized festival, sans a neighboring county fair or two.
  22. Part of the issue lies in the many different circumstances, some of which are really risky and others that are not. I'm all for a mask rule indoors in high risk places like restaurants, bars, movie theaters, etc when not consuming food. Hopefully businesses are willing to enforce this. It seems some people want a universal mask rule in public places outdoors as well though, which opens up to a lot of complaints and enforcing inconsistencies. You may have a minority getting cited and then crying racism too. Hopefully they find a happy medium for places that should require masks so we can get this under control while also avoiding too many infringements on people's freedoms.
  23. I know Rockford is just about the peak city in the Midwest for summer convection frequency (intensity is another story, the Central Plains most likely take the cake in that area).
  24. If that's the case there is way too much talk and excitement over a vaccine. I'm guessing many would still be hesitant about large indoor gatherings even once we have a vaccine. Let's hope that's not the case.
  25. That and the fact that the largest concentration of cases are young adults is probably why hospitalizations are not trending badly. That said, it is fair to not sleep on long term effects even in some younger people, so that does not mean to stop worrying about the virus altogether.
