  1. Do most of you Vermonters have flood insurance? Regular homeowners doesn't usually cover flood damage. Manu people are going to be faced with fixing their homes out-of pocket if they didn't have flood insurance.

Also, it's probably going to be impossible to find contractors to fix a lot of this stuff up. Imagine how many electricians, drywall installers, carpenters, etc are going to be needed to fix/check all these flooded homes.

Pretty dire words coming from some dam Near Montpelier.

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - The Winooski River in Montpelier has surpassed Tropical Storm Irene levels, and city manager William Fraser says the Wrightsville Dam is nearing capacity.

Fraser says if the water exceeds capacity in the Wrightsville Dam, it will spill into the North Branch River. He adds that would be the first time it’s happened since the dam was built, so there is no precedent for potential damage.

Fraser also says there are very few evacuation options remaining, so people in at-risk areas may wish to go to upper floors in their houses.

  4. Here in Southern CT we were hit by EAB hard around 8-10 years ago. There is essentially no more ash trees around here. Even young 2-3 inch tees don't make it.

I have been treating my 125+ year old green ash tree for the last 10 years against EAB. I lost another one of similar size and counted the rings and compared size to estimate the age of this one.

The first 4 years I used an imdicalprod soil drench but have since switched over to treeage Injections from an arborist every 2 years. The active ingredient is Emamectin Benzoate which is way better than using imdicalprod. Cost $300 every 2 years compared to the $3k I spent removing the other ash I'll keep treating for awhile.

There is still some thinning and dead branches but she's still holding on this year. This picture was also taken awhile back when it just leafed out.

I couldn't remember a day with AQI this high so I traveled to the CT.gov site, and looked up historical AQI data.

I reviewed last 20 years, AQI above 100, using 8hr AQI highs.

The data suggests an over performing, and highly anomalous event. Already nearing 160 AQI in Cornwall, where 112 AQI was predicted by DEEP.

It has been very dry over past few weeks. The mix of that alongside dry conditions gives this day a post apocalyptic feel.

don’t see a reading over 100 AQI at any site since 2016. According to the CT Gov site, the AQI max for today will vary between 126 AQI and 114 AQI.

This would make it quite the day in terms of air pollution compared to historical data if this is accurate.

Most often it’s campfires, BBQs in a park where coals are extinguished on a windy day. Cigarette butts out car windows blowing into roadside dry grasses.  One of the largest California fires was witnessed starting by a lowered like Honda Civic (or one of those types) bottoming out while pulling into a Wal-Mart… sparks from the under carriage blown in 40mph winds ignited the grass and forest next to the lot.

    And gender reveals...

I have a question ... has anyone heard/read of how these fires up in Canada are set?

I keep waiting to hear news break about that specific and nothing.

I read most of the ones in Nova Scotia were from human activity. Probably the same with the ones now in Quebec.
