  1. Impressive band. Just heard some more thunder.

Have increased isolated thunder wording in terms of coverage with this update as embedded convective elements have ticked up with radar and even a lightning strike detected in Queens. A secondary warm front is currently lifting through which has aided in lift in the past couple of hours. Otherwise forecast remains on track.

    @weatherwiz

3 years ago the same veterans party got hit by this in Branford. 9 tornadoes in the OKX forecast area that day..

    Summary
A narrow tornado path of 25 yard width began near Pine Orchard and Oak Hollow Roads and continued northeast with uprooted hardwood trees showing evidence of a convergent damage pattern. The damage path widened to 300 yards at the Francis Walsh Intermediate School field where several light tower generators were all toppled by straight line winds while the eastern 100 yards of this area along Sunset Hill Drive continued to show a convergent damage pattern. The tornado continued on toward the top of Whiting Hill Road where the path narrowed to about 75 yards and the most intense damage occurred where some pine trees in a loop at the top of the road were snapped in two. The damage path continued northeast to Gould Rd where the tornado apparently lifted just before reaching the Governor John Davis lodge turnpike.

put solar panels up 7+ years ago when my house needed a new roof, haven't paid an electric bill since, and have a 4-figure credit for excess unused power I generated and sold back to the electric company

will get an electric car when the technology, availability of different models and prices improve.  right now, most electric cars on the market are higher-end vehicles, I prefer smaller, lower cost, high production run vehicles since they are less expensive to insure, drive and repair

I bought my panels in cash 8 years ago and they reached their return on investment in less than 5 years. They have been producing around $2.8k a year in basically free electricity. My electricity bill has been the $9 minimum service charge every month. The satisfaction of telling Eversource to fuck off has been the best part of it.

New England has the highest electricity rates in the lower 48. Solar makes a ton of sense here...

A lot of good info in this story about the events leading up to the shooting. I wonder if lawsuits will eventually be filed. At a minimum, some heads will probably roll

Cops were sent to Maine gunman’s home weeks before massacres amid concern he ‘is going to snap and commit a mass shooting’ (yahoo.com)

Something similar happened here. Some guy killed his ex and then took his own life. Family/friends were contacting the police with concerns for months leading up to it. The cops did nothing and my town is facing unprecedented lawsuits that will be very easy to win based off the fact they did absolutely nothing.

Bad argument with the forests. Those solar panels in 20 years will reduce carbon a hell of a lot more than the trees. After 20 years if you want to replant trees have at it. Or you could just sell the land for condoz.

Almost 70k lbs of Co2 reduced and I planted the equivalent of 526 trees according to my Solar ap.

Yeah that’s why they move away from that stuff… but still have diesel backups for power on lifts (ie power outage with people on chairs, need a way to move them).

Ski areas have come a long way since the 1990s, but then again maybe not as that’s all in the eye of the beholder.  Sort of like has humanity come a long way since the 1990s? Maybe in some respects, and not in others?

I remember when Bolton Valley put up the wind turbine. I had a season pass and that thing was always cranking in the winter when I was there. I remember talking to someone about it and they said the wind often gets too high and it locks the blades for safety.

There is some serious wind potential on the western slope of the greens. Does Stowe have any wind power?

  7. I lived in Burlington VT in the late 90s early 2000s and worked at Smugglers Notch one winter. I remember seeing like 5 or 6 diesel powered air compressors running to make snow. The operations guy said Green Mountain power couldn't deliver enough electricity to run the compressors.

Those compressors were belching out thick diesel exhaust and the amount of energy the ops guys told me was consumed to blow snow was absurd.

The first sub-32F SFC prog at the MVL ASOS from the latest GFS run is October 31st.

    That is absolutely insane.

I don’t think people understand how rare that is based on standard deviations from the period or record.

If we even entertain November 1 as a first freeze at a NNE radiational site, wow.  Been a mild fall. This isn’t a troll post, just recognizing what is actually happening.

    Pretty crazy.

We still getting brandywine tomatoes, cherry peppers, anaheims, and scotch bonnets all doing great, dahlias blooming like crazy.  We did turn the basil into pesto by now... it doesn't love the mid/upper 30s... but most of the garden continues unabated for now, even as the last week has been slightly BN in the means.

Just noticed my Rose of Sharon are loaded with buds.
