General observation while in SW connecticut this weekend.   Son had a lacrosse tournament in Darien/New Canaan area.  Barring the extreme wealth and nearly every home probably having a well, overall its just much greener than Eastern mass.  We never get thunderstorms anymore.  Tuesdays threat looks like it stops in Worcester as does most threats.  Every summer we start off strong in the spring and then it turns into a dust bowl in EMA.   Lawns are complete toast here already.

SW CT and the New Haven area have mostly non profit water companies with dirt cheap water. I run my irrigation every day and it adds maybe $40 to my bill. I think a CCF which is like 750 gallons cost me like $2.

You need to move down to the shoreline. Just got back from another special 5 miler along the shoreline. Screenshot_20250630_060803_Gallery.thumb.jpg.fe0304a054a1f3b3fa61dc9639ab06c0.jpg

Expect a typical warm and humid summer day region wide. The region will be just north or along the northern periphery of a stalled frontal boundary to the immediate south. Dew point readings will be primarily in the middle and upper 60s through the early afternoon. A sea breeze gets going for the afternoon and will usher in slightly
higher moisture values with dew points approaching 70 late in the day and evening along far southern locations

I thought Connecticut was always hot and humid? Doesn't seem that way to me. Feels damn good

    What a phenomenal evening

Yeah. Some great dews this evening.

The forecast area will also reside in a very muggy warm sector tonight with dew points getting into the lower 70s before the passage of the cold front.

  5. Starting to notice a lot of tree damage from the heat around here.  Many of the pin oaks/red oaks have outer sections of very light green/yellowish leaves. Many young trees seems to suffer the worst and dropped a good portion of their leaves.  My neighbor's young river birch probably dropped like 75 percent of it's leaves.

  6. From ISO New England.

Consumer demand for grid electricity unofficially peaked Tuesday evening at 26,024 megawatts (MW), the highest level seen in the region since 2013.

The all-time record for regional electricity demand was set on Aug. 2, 2006, when demand reached 28,130 MW after a prolonged heat wave.

  7. My sister's at her house on Pt Judith this week and said it was cold on her morning run. Haha. Looks like the high was only 78-79 yesterday on a few wunderground sites there.

It is quite steamy out there. Don't have the AC on yet though. I plan to install tomorrow.

You know it's warm one when installs go down on an ice planet....

It is so nice out, do not even have the A/C on... just doors wide open.  Will likely turn on the dehumidifier function of the mini-split to sleep, but man it is just perfect summer outside right now in the waning light.  Still can see outside fine at 9pm without artificial light.  It's a whole vibe.

    73/68.

The New England grid is basically maxed out right now. Lots if installs went down.

I love really warm evenings . it's unfortunate we can't get them without hot days. It is hard to control the beer intake however. They go down like water...

Haha. It's like Miami down here on the shoreline.

We are hot to go baby.

    Bring it..

After morning cloud cover dissipates, hot and humid weather begins and is expected to lead to high heat indices, with extreme heat and humidity expected on Monday.

  12. Upton's thoughts

A shortwave pushing through southeastern Canada has forced the development of an MCS that is making its way southeastward through Upstate New York. Despiteits progression toward the area this morning, there remains substantial uncertainty in its ability tomaintain itself as it approaches this morning. The MCS is moving
into a less favorable environment and while CAMs disagree as to the
exact track and continuance of the MCS, the chance exists for showers and thunderstorms to move into the area this morning.

Euro has almost all of NYC and interior LI at 107° Tue.

It looks overdone to me given the 850s. Looks like a lot of MU90s with a hundy here and there.

Will be interesting to see the overnight lows. Someone posted in the NYC thread that the Euro had something ridiculous like 92/72 in NYC at 2am Mon night.

Probably going to go hang in North Branford for a bit in the field next to police station. It's a nice open spot. But that still may be just a bit too much into marine influence. Maybe I'll do Wallingford.

Drive up to the top of Castle Craig in Meriden.

The round stone observation tower of native trap rock was built by local stone masons in 1900.  It stands on East Peak with an elevation of 976 feet.  The tower is 32 feet in height and 58 feet in circumference

  15. Will probably be some top demand day records next week for ISO New England, especially since the bulk of the heat is midweek. Anyone know how any of these top demand days compare to next week?

The large drop in peak demand from 2013 on has been mainly due to residential solar deployment and energy efficiency gains.
