12+” deficit over what time frame?

You could call it over the last year or so but 2 winters of less than half of average snowfall and even with the rains they were both way short in overall precip. Then last year's drought and extended dryness through the fall and the recent dryness all adds up to a significant deficit. I notice it in the hard to maintain well pressure if I need to run the water for any great length of time and the regular soil moisture checks that I do.

This current t-storm is the real deal. I'm at just under 2" in 20 minutes and it's absolutely pouring.

Hey guys , how's it going?  I usually only come on here during the winter, but I thought I'd say hello.  So we go from abnormally dry to abnormally wet in a pretty short span. More storms today.

The abnormally wet thing isn't true everywhere. I'm only at about 2.5" since the wet period started. That's not going to make much of a dent in a 12+" deficit.

thank you my friend.  if you gentlemen could see this view i think you’d be jealous.  cannot wait for the next big SVR.  i can see for miles and miles.

Yeah I have a miles long view down the hill to my east. Looking out at the backside of storms as they pass me can be pretty awesome and looking at clear skies as a storm/front move over is kickass.

I’m really hoping for a complete pattern change soon. This dreary pattern is getting to me. I wish we could send the storms to Canada where they really need the rain.

I dunno, I think I like it more than 92 and humid with the AC running constantly. NYSEG certainly doesn't need the money.

  5. Re: Watertown area - I guess nothing to do depends on your perspective. There is everything outdoors, hiking, riding, skiing and it's not hard to get to some of the other cities for cultural things, shows, museums, etc. I'm looking forward to getting out of the Metro Area and having less to do, I'm even thinking it wouldn't be so bad to have to get a bigass snowblower so my aging self doesn't have to deal with the shitty side of snow removal. My wife doesn't necessarily agree

Soaking rains just ended up here in Dutchess. We needed this.
On a side note we are under attack from caterpillars this season. Oak trees and birch trees are literally stripped bare.

    .

I was wondering what's going on. I drive through at least once a week and the forest looks more haggard in sections of Dutchess and Columbia than anywhere else in the entire region. There are places where it looks like March not June.

  7. I finally got an actual wet day - .62! After a ground softening .17 yesterday and the overnight fog this actually did some good. It's wet a few inches down now and I'm seeing explosive growth in the yard. The pokeweed has grown 2-3 feet in the past couple of days.

Are we really gonna be grey and wet most of the next 5 days?

Know what I'm enjoying? Telling everyone who hates snow who says" I'm not complaining" when it fails to snow that "I'm not complaining" that it's cool and I'm saving on AC and avoiding heat rash. It could stay below 70 all freakin summer as far as I'm concerned.

Well, below 80 anyway. This kinda takes the beach out of the picture, 80 at least opens that up.
