  1. Couldn't get a decent measurement if I tried but I'm going to say 5-6". There are just as many spots it's blown down to bare ground as there are foot deep drifts. The flakes are mostly mangled and really small so it's very dense but lightweight because it's cold and dry. For the most part it's pretty easy shoveling. We'll see what the plow pile is like though, due to the density I expect it to be a pain in the butt.
  2. Yup. I can just barely see the end of the neighbors backyards across the street now. Flake size has increased dramatically in the last 20 minutes or so and the wind is howling. I figure it's just a matter of time now before the power goes out when a tree takes out a line somewhere here on the hill. Gonna go out and shovel and maybe go for a walk down the block. See y'alll in a little while.
  3. I was just looking at that and wondering the same thing.
  4. -20?!! Got milk, crunchy raisin bran, bread, liquid bread, rum, wine, a couple different kinds of cream whiskeys and coffee. I think I'm ready.
  5. Yeah wind fractured flakes are a serious hindrance to those high ratios. Even in calm periods here at the surface it's still a maelstrom upstairs and the flakes get beat up. Nope nothing for you You get snowmaking from the park and a wall of clouds to your east
  6. That's what I'm expecting. Hoping for 6 but I think that 3 or 4 is more realistic and I won't be surprised if it's only 1".
  7. Yay for 0 before midnight Happy New Years my HV friends
  8. I'm thinking more old style winter with clippers and swiffers rather than 21st century blockbusters. Hopefully the cold relents a bit but not too much above normal.
  9. Not much over 1" but it's more than the 1/2" I was expecting. I'll take it. The roads were mostly wet this afternoon after the sun came out so hopefully they'll be decent for the ride to work in Ridgefield in the morning. Clear, fresh snowcover and no wind, it ought to be good and cold tonight.
  10. Nice snowy day, feels more like an old time winter than what we've had the last few years. I was out clearing the snow a little while ago with the leaf blower. I love cold dry snow
  11. Snowing harder than I thought it would after all the miss and bust chatter the last two days. I've got a good thick coating on everything already and the extra dense brine soaking the streets got yesterday doesn't seem to have done any good but at 10* I wouldn't expect it to without a fair bit of traffic on it. Hopefully that updated 2" forecast holds true. I think I'm going to go out for a mt bike ride this afternoon For as cold as it has been it hasn't been as unbearable as many other cold snaps. Maybe because it just kind of settled in, I don't know. I sure would like to see a couple of subzero nights out of this though. The heat in my house has been running pretty much constantly and it has really dried things out inside too much. Gonna go get a humidifier today.
  12. Yeah it looks like 4 was my low. If it's going to be this cold it should get a little colder just because 0 is a good target. Temps this cold are useless anyway for outdoor activities so what's wrong with a little bit colder...
  13. We're going to hold you to that Welcome to our thread Jay. It's nice to have a local Met join the party. Yeah what's that about hair loss? I haven't lost any in years
  14. Tonight looks like a better chance for most of us to crack 0. Tomorrow looks like it's gonna be a mite chilly I'll tell ya, my clutch was an unhappy car part this morning for the first mile or so until everything warmed up. I wish I had a garage On the upside, there is definitely something to be said for cold, dry pavement and the right tires on a good sports car I had all sortsa fun last night and this morning
  15. Looks like I dropped to a little under 9* but that's it. Hoping to crack 0 at least once in this cold period. Either way, it's fkn cold out there man
  16. If you have to go out be careful, the wind is bringing down lots of branches. A good part of my town the power is out now.
  17. The wind is here and the temp has started to drop. When I cleaned the cars off this morning the bottom 1/2" was a pretty solid crust, once it hardens up as it gets cold it's going to be a real bear to remove. Go out and clean your cars off now
  18. Well it looks like my concern was mostly unwarranted. I'll go out and check in a few minutes but eyeballing it gives me ~3". edit: My eyeballs are old and no good - The ruler says 1.8" on elevated surfaces and 1" or less over slush on the lawn. The ground is super warm after the last few days and this stuff is turning to mush in a hurry. Instant compaction too, especially in the sun.
  19. Well, sort of. I'm still in 'the slot', lookin' like 1-2" maybe.
  20. Thankfully I didn't even think to put my hands out so no fukkered up wrists Warm rain most of the day and night tonight so tomorrow morning should be safe. I don't know what to make of those maps posted above. One has me solidly in the wet the other has me white but in the light slot. Guess I'll just make sure I have beer and it'll be what it'll be.
  21. Yuck! I just walked out the door and went down flat on my butt. It's raining and 32* and everything is a solid block of ice.
