  1. ...And now it's large flakes coming down heavily with no pellets
  2. It's cold and sort of snowing. I say sort of because it's really loud so it's more pellets than flakes. 24/NE/-SN. Too bad it's going to change I didn't feel a quake but my dogs sure did. They were up and grumbling and dancing around the house for a few minutes.
  3. Looks like it's about to snow now. Anybody getting anything?
  4. I had to make a quick trip up to Poughkeepsie this evening and it was pouring most of the way. Pn the west side of the Taconic crest it was pretty nasty freezing rain, you could see the ice layer creeping in from the side of the road and branches were hanging pretty low in a few places. As soon as I came back over the east side of the crest it got foggy again as the temp jumped about 5 degrees. @White Gorilla did it warm up before it finished?
  5. So mostly wet here today? Trying to decide which car to take to work.
  6. And now it looks like mostly wet tomorrow rather than that fantasy 4-6 forecast that popped the other day
  7. Boy that Sunday flip flop forecasting is a real winner eh. From nothing to 4-6 to mixed wet and white... Slip slidin' awayYou know the nearer your destinationThe more you're slip slidin' away
  8. Well that was fun to watch while it lasted. I"m glad I rolled over and woke up to look out the window. Still snowing but the flakes are back to normal size
  9. It flipped to snow sometime after 11 and now it's dumping the biggest flakes I've ever seen. These things are freaking HUGE!
  10. I've got 33* white rain. It started out this afternoon at 42 degrees and steadily dropped through the mid 30's but stopped just short of sufficient right about as it melted what was left of the inch from the other day. Hopefully we can drop another couple all the way through the column and turn this into something good.
  11. Yeah but I had been looking forward to it for a few months. Ahh well, gonna have to live another 79 years so I can see the next one
  12. Fark I thought it was tonight Last night I woke up and went to the bathroom, looked out the window and thought to myself that the moon wasn't as bright as earlier in the night and didn't even give it a second thought
  13. I wish I still had proper backcountry ski gear, that map makes it look like Petersburg Pass did well from this storm also and they were looking really good before the storm.
  14. Got home and measured 2". Not bad but would've been nice to see more like 4-5. I don't want to wait until next month for another shot at 6+ but it appears that's what it's going to be.
  15. So it sounds like you actually did pretty well, I heard 7-8" up there. My kids are living in the dorms at DCC and classes have been cancelled today. I guess that's what happens when you have 10k students that commute by car.
  16. I had really low expectations for this one anyway as far as accumulations go but it is turning out to be fairly high impact due to the ice layer underneath. Yup visually it's not bad, the crunchy stuff from overnight gave the wet snow this morning a nice surface to bond to so everything is coated in a nice .5" layer of snow.
  17. Well that explains why I was able to hear the 'flakes' hitting the house.
  18. At 3:30am it was White rain and 28*. At 5:30 it was rain @ 30*. Now it's light snow hiding all of the ice @ 31*. Can't even measure this crap but .2 would be right judging by the stick the finger in test. I bet the roads coming off my hill are a pleasure.
  19. Yeah I've never been sure how to phrase it but frontogenesis makes more sense than upslope, these aren't exactly big hills, I mean they're not the Tetons or Green Mountain Spine by Stowe It does seem that it happens like that frequently though and I benefit from it more often than not. Yay my car warmed enough for me to get in
  20. Great explanation of how to show better ratios with marginal conditions. Is that red dot on the simulated radar above supposed to be the Brewster Mesonet station? Interesting because it shows the upslope I talk about sometimes against the southern end of the Taconics when I'm getting an unpredicted additional accumulation.
  21. Nice fresh coating. Hoping the temp goes up just enough with the sun on the car this morning to get either a door or the trunk open so I can take it to my father in laws place and put it in the garage to thaw. If not I'll try again tomorrow or on Friday.
  22. Looks like I could see 6" but that's not all that unusual for a storm that's essentially a clipper with some coastal enhancement.
