  1. A front loaded winter would be nice. Put the snow down and hold onto it for a while with low sun angle and generally colder temps. Those couple of winters in the early 2000's when it snowed the first week of Dec I had snow on the ground right through New Years. I'd take that any time.
  2. ^^ And there's enough cold air floating around that a deep storm can tap into. I have a feeling there's at least one more, maybe not all that significant but, I don't think we're done yet.
  3. I slept in so haven't gone out to get a measurement yet but eyeball says 4", maybe 5". Either way that puts me at ~40" for the month and ~60" for the year. That's a foot or so above avg
  4. Feel free to bring that quad 2 miles up the hill and hit my driveway while you're at it, I'm that close to your office. Band west and east, I'm sitting in between barely flurrying It looks like 4" is where I'm at unless that band west of here settles in and gives me a bit more before it wraps up.
  5. Oh and about that radar hole... I'm directly under the center of that NW facing cone coming off Uptons radar. Sometimes it's frustrating when I'm trying to zoom in really tight. But yeah, distance from the radar over ~50 NM will give you a really poor representation of what's happening.
  6. I've got less than 2 blocks visibility now and have for a while. It's actually accumulating nicely now that it's dark out, almost at 1" now
  7. There was no spring break scheduled this year. They were going to have 4/2 and the long weekend on Memorial Day instead so off from Friday to Tuesday but those were already taken back. This district also gives them for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur in the fall so that was 3 days. They got 2 or 3 days this winter where it didn't snow at all so they kind of screwed themselves like they did today.
  8. Got this snowglobe thing going on outside now. Moderate snow with big flakes swirling around in all sorts of directions. Pretty cool looking Maybe it'll even coat the ground
  9. Still nothing other than a random flake here and there, not even enough to call it flurries. It looks like a little batch may make its way in here in a little while though but it doesn't look to be big enough to do more than coat the grass.
  10. They still have to hit the state minimum of 180 days or whatever the number is. I heard a teacher talking about it in the supermarket the other day and she was saying that their contract requires them to hit that number of days so they have to work whether they like it or not. She was saying that both her and her husband are going to have to turn down their summer jobs at a sleepaway camp because they will be missing the first week.
  11. Yep todays school closure here puts them into July. I kind of feel bad for the kids and teachers because the state tests will be held on the days they're scheduled no matter whether they've had time to cover that stuff or not and those scheduled dates are now 2 weeks before the end of school. I'm glad my kids graduated last year. We're hearing these kids around town complaining about what's going to happen and how they'll be done with all of the testing but still have to sit in school for almost 3 weeks with nothing left to do but they have to show up. Lots of disappointed kids that won't be able to work their summer jobs, lots of camp deposits that won't be refunded even though the kids won't be there, final grades for seniors that won't get to colleges before the end of June deadlines... all sorts of problems. Missing 8 days when the power was out and the roads were too choked for the buses to get through really screwed things up here, even without that they would have used 4 or 5 more snow days than were built into the schedule.
  12. If it has it's south of me and I wasted a day where I could have been out traveling and working. I want it to make it at least up to here so we can put the annual average well behind us but won't really mind if I don't have to shovel. Yeah what's up with that? I couldn't get in for over an hour. Busy place I guess.
  13. Yeah Upton still has me on the line between 6-12 and 12+ so I should do pretty well but the slow start to accumulating snow always gets me weirded out. Gonna go out and take a ride and see what's doing down in town.
  14. Haha Yeah, we'll see. If 84 is the cutoff then I'm borderline as I'm less than 10 miles south of it.
  15. It's been random flakeage since 9:15 and now it finally looks like the storm has begun for real. We'll see. That northern boundary looks like it means business and may severely limit total accumulations. I hope that the deformation zones showing up on some of the models pan out later today and tonight otherwise this may end up being just a nuisance.
  16. I kinda like the way that Deep Thunder model looks Prepare for 20
  17. I can't figure out how to play tomorrow. I need to get out and make some sales calls and can go west, north or northeast but don't want to deal with rotten driving conditions. It looks like pretty much all 3 areas will be good for the bulk of the day but coming home is where the problem is. I'd really like not to have to take the 15mpg suv so the question is what time is this mess going to start around here and how far north will the precip be by ~7pm?
  18. I had the same effect on Wednesday afternoon coming down off my hill. The road faces north and it was a gray wall in front of us, couldn't see past the north side of the lake less than 2 miles away, and it was bright blue sky and sunny where we were. Usually at that spot you can see clear to the hill where DRVTS (;) ) lives which is about 10-12 miles away.
  19. Yup Cranberry Mt MUA/Wildlife Mgmt Area. That and the county land across the street are one of my favorite spots in the area and I try to spend as much time there as I can. Where are you by Nimham? I need to get up in there again soon, it's been too long. I live in Mahopac and we've gotten the same 36" but due to the new/old measuring methods it's technically only 27-28" at the top of my hill. It's not lasting the same way here as some other spots around the area though because of my ESE exposure, my front yard is burned off but the back is still 6-14" deep. What business is yours, I"ll stop in and say hey
  20. Looks like the ride up the Taconic or Rt 22 would have been challenging. I wonder how much the top of Petersburg Pass got, they tend to do very well in that setup.
