  1. Every time I try to explain this to people they tell me I'm wrong
  2. Here it's the mist, it's so thick it might as well be raining.
  3. I turn the tunes up, it drowns out the wind noise You can keep it
  4. Yeah I much prefer keeping the windows open in the car but unless you're moving at a decent clip it's so unpleasant that AC is still necessary. Disturbing...
  5. When we think we've had a lot of rain I can't help but think of the guy in NC that posted in their Florence thread last night that he is at 103" so far for the year. I couldn't believe it when i saw it but he confirmed it. Can you imagine...
  6. I'm ~40 miles west of you and they've been thick here. I haven't seen any in a few days now. I think the cool temps finally put them down for the season.
  7. I was north and east of you in CT today and drove through some pretty heavy rains. There was a lot of water on the roads north of Fairfield and some creeks overflowing and running across the roads.
  8. I ran into quite a few heavy downpours around western CT today. There was a fair bit of water on the road in a lot of places, creeks are bank full and there's lots of deep standing water filling the low spots. One thing that is kind of scary is how many (really) big trees are leaning precariously over roads and power lines just waiting for a strong breeze to bring them down. You'd think these electric companies would have learned after last winter and the May storm to take these things down. I think it's time to keep 5 or 10 gallons of gas always ready to go into the generator. I wish I could get ethanol free gas near me so I didn't have to use Sta-Bil.
  9. In the latest visible shot this really is a beautiful storm. Knowing (approximately) what's going to happen over the next few days I hate appreciating it but I can't help it. Someone on the north side of the Chesapeake area-MD/DEL/NJ coast is getting a heckuva surf day today.
  10. Looks like we wrap up the first 24 hours of this period with ~1.3" here.
  11. Just short of 1.2" now with the heaviest rain and strongest winds of the day so far.
  12. I think 57 was my high (so far) for today. It's just raw and nasty out there, we've had over 1" since last night.
  13. I know all about being frugal As of just two weeks ago I wouldn't have thought twice about grabbing a deal on a few days on the beach down there but now it looks like a different story for the next few weeks. Even August is questionable but, I'd do it. We seem to be running ~.1/hour so far today. Not bad, gives it a chance to soak in rather than otherwise. Hopefully Flo doesn't send much for rain and wind up this way or we'll have trees flopping over, so much is weak from the winter storms and how wet it's been this year and NYSEG did a piss poor job of clearing the lines in case another real storm hits the area which puts us in another no power situation. Something to look forward to
  14. That's the risk you take going at this time of year. It's pretty much peak season for them down there. Looks like we are now up to ~.65" here since last night.
  15. What is the current water temp and how quickly do you expect it to drop from this point onward? If it clears up I'd sure love to come down on Wednesday for a last beach day, I think the water is going to get all churned up and it just won't be as nice after Flo does whatever she chooses to do. But they do start to decompose more quickly when they're wet so there's that...
  16. Appears to be about .3" here and it's been pretty steady light rainfall with short periods of moderate mixed in since about 8 last night. For as little rain as has fallen the roads are getting ugly with big puddles and ponding on the roadways.
  17. Haha I'm on the third day now with pants and a jacket is in order this morning. I had to turn on the heat too because it was 62* in the house this morning and while it sort of feels good it's damp and it makes the old man back feel crappy. 52* with light rain and wind sure does feel like fall
  18. Air movement is from the NNW. Look at the radar, you see that firm northern boundary to the precipitation? We are in a completely different airmass than down closer the coast.
  19. A little harder than drizzle here. That northern boundary to this looks pretty firm. I hate being in the soup knowing that it's nice not far away.
  20. Is that circulation over MI the remnants of Gordon? No doubt. I just figured the two big storms in 1978 were a fluke until early 94 when I realized that it was really possible to get a good winter around here. I still wouldn't have expected what we've been through this century.
  21. Looks like central Dutchess is getting pretty wet this morning and another line is headed for the southern part of the county soon.
  22. I'm pretty used to spending 8-12 hours a day traveling so that in itself isn't too big a deal but when you kind of have your mind set on ~3 hours and it ends up at 5 those last few are rough. Last week I had a great solo trip up to Toronto with a stop at a brewery in Syracuse for lunch and one work stop for another hour so instead of 8 hours if I had done it straight through it ended up closer to 11. I actually enjoy the windshield time. Yeah when the rear end lost traction and the car started to go sideways with a wave created by an suv it was a bit disconcerting As it bumped the curb on the side it regained traction and shot out of the water pretty easily. I hate how when traffic here in the NY area is really tight and you can't stop and have to just "dive in" because otherwise you're gonna shut down a whole road. That's what happened on the Hutch, there were cars sitting in the middle of the road after apparently screaming into deep water at highway speed and the WPD had the road closed and were making everybody leave and head onto surface streets.
