If there is a hole big enough to insert a common pencil, mice can get in.

But of course, monsieur! Merci beaucoup! I play on a co-ed beach v-ball league and I could see lightning way to the north as well...amazing how far you can see it...probably 60 miles away I assume it was after dark. Some years (30?) ago a co-worker and I were returning from a day in the eastern Maine woods, and at about 10 PM when we turned from Rt 1 in Belfast to Rt3 heading west, we could see flashes in the distance. Later I learned that it was lightning from the Rangeley area, 100+ miles away.

The reno shows usually use the fancy-pants "on-suite". (Not sure if that's the right spelling as I've never seen it in writing.)

Appears that the "wagons south" pattern is coming back. Elsa's gift was 6 days ago, and while it will help the well for weeks to come, garden watering probably resumes this weekend.

I haven't been stung in 2 years, so I know if I get zapped this year I'll develop swelling around the sting site 15-60 minutes after the hit, and no other symptoms. (Get stung on my left hand/wrist, I immediately put the wedding band in my wallet.) Swelling goes down slowly over the next 6-12 hours with some residual soreness in the stretched tissues that persists a day or two. If I'd been stung last year, my only symptom would be the short duration pain followed by some itching at the site. During my lifetime I've probably been stung in more years than not.

Thanks to zero upslope and less overall snow, we're way lower than the above. Avg. Med. Hi/Lo Trace 67.5 72.0 79/48 0.1"+ 41.8 42.0 55/27 1.0"+ 21.7 22.0 32/13 4.0"+ 7.4 7.0 14/3 6.0"+ 4.0 4.0 9/0

That's how we lost Marshall Dodge (Bert and I) and almost the same for Stephen King. And only in a minority of times it's the biker not the driver. Several years back on the "Bike Across Maine" fundraiser a biker was killed when he took one hand off the bar to grab a drink, just as a log truck was passing him. Truck was well off the shoulder and at the same speed as other traffic but the big rig's slipstream pulled the one-hander biker into a rear bunk, right at helmet level. Driver had no clue until he stopped in Farmington, and even then there was no evidence except the timing of both vehicles and some eyewitnesses. Combination of small phenomena resulting in a big tragedy.

When my FIL was training for a marathon (late '70s, he was in his 50s), he'd cover the nips with tape.

When we lived in Gardiner and our parents had retired to Woodsville, NH, we'd drive over via the Kanc and return thru Gorham and the Sumner woods. N. Conway was a convenient place to stretch our legs at the mini mall where 302 meets 16. Wife would load up on cheap-but-good pantyhose she couldn't find near home. Sometimes 302 would be backed up well across the border into Maine. Maybe Phin's view of that area warrants the Yogi Berra comment (about a NNJ restaurant): "Nobody goes there any more; it's too crowded."

A dumb decision in TN but that's a really wide tar brush to use the term "death cult". May be satisfying for him to say but it just adds to the unfortunate divisiveness in this country.

Would need to run 8-10° AN for tomorrow thru 7/31 to get there, or the hottest 2.5 weeks in my 24 summers, by far. Sell

Seems like a valid article - is there evidence that it's bogus, or is it unworthy of note by MS medical folks? There are a lot of folks saying that the kids are at a risk level above zero but almost indistinguishable from it. (Excuse the hyperbole.)

Met summer with 23.82" RA, avg is 13.19". Eight week stretch with only 7 rainless days and 17"+ RA, tomato plants rotting (6 main crop and 6 cherry, total crop 3 almost ripe cherry tomatoes) and neighbors had the same. Town was replacing a bridge at the other end of our road so they fixed up the (formerly) unmaintained 3/4 mile to allow access for folks east of the brook. August had far more sun than that June-July, but also 3 rain event that blew out the new material and cutting off those folks until the runoff ended and repairs could be made. The summer of mold and mushrooms. Edit: Got my obligatory sprinkles from today's system.

We're -4.2 thru yesterday and +1.50" precip. Since May-June were -6.1" that's only a start. First half of 2021 was 8.7" BN, 62% of average. If the 2nd half has a similar departure, 2021 would be our driest year by more than 3".

Last evening's news claimed 130, even adding "just 4° from tying the record." Meanwhile the month's 2nd 40s minima this morning (touched 41 on the 5th) after last July not getting lower than 51.
-
That's where we started our honeymoon in 1971 - stayed at Fisherman's Wharf. (I don't even know if that's still there.) Then we headed up to BHB on June 24, bought a couple lobsters for a scenic top of Cadillac feast. Visibility 100 yards in fog, we forget to get napkins - few foods are messier than eating a whole lobster - and the park hadn't turned on the water yet up there , but the critters tasted great.
-
Looks something like an equatorial rain forest. Water table should be all set there, but most garden plant roots live in the top 12" so they'll need some refreshers.
-
Currently 5.2° BN for July. Would take about +2.3 rest of month to finish AN, very doable. Difference is in the maxima, currently about -9.5 while minima are <1° BN. July to date (3.03") is 1/4" wetter than May-June combined.
-
Two-system total was 1.79", with about 1" in 5 hours from Elsa yesterday afternoon. Still more data coming into cocorahs, but earlier I checked 2-day totals and found only one - Readfield, about 15 miles to my south - with less (1.72") and my crosstown neighbor matching my total exactly. July now up to 3.03". Total for May-June was 2.78".
-
Have not checked the Stratus since noon, when there was 0.38" to add to the 0.37" reported to cocorahs in the morning. Might've had up to another inch since, no truly heavy rain but hours of moderate - like a high-end synoptic event. We take. Radar says the good stuff ends before 6 PM with only scraps afterward. With this drink and summer-normal temps* in the days following, the garden should go nuts. *Tomorrow the mean temp climbs above 65° (76/54) and stays there thru August 9 without ever getting higher than a tiny bit over 66.
-
Same temp here and it feels a bit stuffy, especially compared to the mid 50s earlier.

ACK was cloudy at 1 PM, 73, SE 37G47. Nobody else had gusts even to 25.

What kind of weenie are you? At least put out an empty soup can or something.

Overall prices for mot everything tend to be high in the Nordic countries. At least you've got a better exchange rate (~125 ISK/dollar, was ~100/1 in 2017) than when we were there. Dollar 20% stronger but twice the kroner - yeah, soaked.
