  1. Some torrential downpours at times last night and early this morning. The one this morning had loud thunder and some bright lightning flashes. Rain was torrential but was short lived. Two day total so far = .75". Just enough but not too much. Perfect! Level 10 on the swampy scale out there this morning.
  2. Dryloc worked great for some small seepage areas in my last house. I did first use dryloc cement on the block around and over where the water was coming in. Then used the paint over that. I did really press the cement into the block and gave it like 3 applications. Let it dry well then use paint. Worked well, never had seepage again. Worth a try before you start digging outside.
  3. Off topic for this sub forum but all time high temperature in RDU today of 106, beating the old record of 105. Heat index readings ranged from between 110-118 at mid-day. Localized very intense heat in the Piedmont of NC today.
  4. Was so nasty humid / muggy out today. Should have been a Swamp Ass Advisory in effect.
  5. Just .14" last night. Swampy out this morning.
  6. Happy 4th. to all. Weather not perfect but it would be much worse.
  7. That ridge - trof - ridge positioning would be interesting (if that pattern persists) as we head into August and September as far as tropical threats for the east coast. Just speculation so we'll see how it goes.
  8. This makes much more sense. No way did the Island of Grenada record a gust that high 30 miles or so south of the center.
  9. Had those in my mind when I posted. That season was amazing. Sure hope that is not the case this season.
  10. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Beryl turned out to be the strongest system of the 2024 season. You almost want to hope so for U.S. coastal interests. Hopefully Beryl is not a trend setter for what lies ahead for August, September and October.
  11. Eastern eye wall looks more fierce than western eye wall so a wild ride coming after the calm.
  12. Must be horrifying for anyone who remained. Direct hit with very distinct mesovortices included. With an intensifying huirricane I would not be surprised if there were some EXTREME instantaneous local gusts over 175 mph. but we will never know for sure.
  13. Spectacular satellite presentation. https://www.meteo.psu.edu/ewall/PSUGOES_MESO1/loop60.html
  14. Ended up with 1.65" rainfall yesterday. Everything nice and green again. No complaints. Refreshing out there this morning with a gusty breeze and very comfortable temps and humidity.
  15. Did well here. Will get official reading later on but eyeballing the gauge looks like 1.25" to 1.50". Barely a puff of wind. Just nice deluge of rain. Most of that total fell in 30-45 minutes. Some low rumbling thunder and a few bright flashes but overall it was the rainfall intensity that was most impressive. This will hold me for a week to 10 days. I'm happy.
  16. Just .11" here last evening and overnight. Hoping this afternoon / evening can deliver something meaningful. VERY humid and uncomfortable outside.
  17. Chain saws and wood chippers were going in the distance all day long. I am right by the Berkshire Valley Wildlife Preserve.
  18. Drought area in increasing over the Mid-Atlantic and gradually spreading northward. Feel pretty sure this will reverse over the next 1-2 months but it has been dry.
  19. Some pictures from this morning. It COULD have been a weak EF0 only because damage started at my corner and went up the street. Down the street just some twigs and leaves. I am also not sure if there was any damage to the neighborhood on the other side of the tree line. Damage seemed to confined to be straight line winds. Highly localized. Not sure.
  20. Lots of debris all over, shredded leaves and small to medium branches down. Did not walk the neighborhood but there have got to be some uprooted trees. JCPL says power restored by 11pm. I don't buy it. Not sure why anyone roots for this stuff. Interesting and exciting for sure but when it comes down your street not so much. Minor in the scheme of things here but when people have real damage not so exciting. Not even enough rain here to make it worth while.
  21. BLASTED here. Easily winds 65-70 mph. Have not seen or felt anything like it since Sandy. All the deck furniture is piled up at one end of the deck. Some of it blew off the deck via the steps. Table top is 12"x12" tiles and most of them were lifted out of the table from underneath. Power is out and generator is running. Suspect it will be out for a while. Had to be numerous trees down around the area. Winds were just ripping for about 2-3 minutes.
  22. Hi @SACRUS Liberty was referencing 1993 and I was referencing the killer heat wave of 1995. Sorry, my error. Has this area seen Heat Index readings similar or equal to 1995? That was the worst heat I can ever remember. Large loss of life in Chicago. I believe HI readings around here topped out in the 115 degree range but I'm not sure. It was stiffing heat though. HI readings in the Mid-West topped out near 125 degrees.
  23. Not sure we've seen HI readings like that since.
  24. That one was absolutely brutal.
