  1. Stifling outside at this hour…. Can feel the heat radiating off the pavement… took the pup for her bedtime walk, not sure if it was the fireworks or the heat, but she wanted no part of it!
  2. Also, a comforting thought is that once it gets this hot during the summer, it usually doesn’t get this hot again the same summer… at least that’s how it has seemed in the past… however, I could be wrong!?!?
  3. As of last hour PHL hit 102
  4. Thanks for that explanation… it seems CC is “messing” with a lot of what we used to consider patterns that we could kind of count on, so to speak.
  5. Are typhoons in the Pacific linked to increased subtropical jet stream activity… ie. more rain in the South and East?
  6. Heat index topped out at 110 here in Philly today... now 91 with a tropical dew point of 76.
  7. Hey all... long time lurker, but decided to take the plunge and create an account. I live in Philadelphia, am a Psychology and History teacher for Philly public schools (just finished my 29th year)... I more or less look at the Philly forum, the NYC forum, and yours... the people in Philly do not post nearly as much as those in the NYC and New England forums do... in any event, I have learned a lot by reading your posts (Typhoon Tip, I have always found yours very informative) and hope to learn more. The weather has always interested me since I was a kid growing up in Wisconsin... between the severe weather we experienced in the spring/summer and the snowstorms we had (especially when I was a kid in the 1970's)... I think these things were the "spark" so to speak. "Anywho"... hope everyone stays cool... was 97 here today with peak HI of 110. Definitely NOT looking forward to the 105 forecasted for tomorrow, the 103 for Friday and the 101 for the 4th. The heat, the concrete... Oy, it's stifling!
  8. Looks like 97 was the high here in Philly today; the humidity really took your breath away, stifling... lots of plan changes for the 250th celebrations this Friday/Saturday due to the heat. Some things moved indoors, and many events moved to around 8pm.
  9. Just finished walking the pup... around the block and a brief interlude into Carpenter's Woods. I am absolutely soaked.
  10. A friend of mine who works for PJM said Thursday is definitely going to break a record and that the western part of our region (Ohio, Michigan, metro-Chicago) are likely to place constraints on the rest of our region; but they are working to hopefully minimize whatever those constraints are.
  11. Hey all... Newbie here. I live in the Northwest part of Philadelphia (Mt. Airy is the section of the city), am a Philly Public School teacher (Psychology and history) for 29 years, and have been a "lurker" on here for quite some time. I have learned a lot by reading the Philadelphia, NYC metro, and New England discussion forums over the years. I have been interested in the weather since I was a kid growing up in Wisconsin... I think the summer of 1977 with its heat and severe weather along with the winter of 1978-1979 (I was in 4th grade... we had so many snow days we had to make one up on a SATURDAY) are what sparked this interest. In any event, I look forward to perhaps joining in on some future discussions. Take care and stay cool this week.
