far be it from me to be optimistic. However, the rationale for this years mini torch Xmas Eve/day seems to be the shifting of the pattern. the rainstorm day later cutting west is pulling up warm air. Could happen even in the best of patterns at our latitude without a deep wedge over NY state. That storm cuts west feeds the trough to the NE that drives a change as it looks in my eyes. To me, thats easier to swallow rather than the sustained WAR, -PNA, +NAO death combo with no end insight kind of deal we had last winter because it seems that things could get better if these ensemble means have legs. If not, then we are fooked with no lubricant once again. If our climate is Charlotte in a few years imagine how weenies in Charlotte feel....they are looking at JAX climate. Which means Florida will boil in its own pudding.

In that run it’s pac air. The real cold is locked up on the other side. Some of the runs tapped some of the modified aK cold but that run had no mechanism to deliver it south so it was zonal dog poop. That is my unofficial explanation.

Luck my friend. We will need luck and timing to get something. It could happen but we won’t know until it’s right in front of us. Any good looks beyond 3 days will be candyland.

It’s hard to be overly optimistic when the 540 line at 174 is no where in the US. Even Maine. It’s the op sure but that doesn’t foster much confidence.

I did that. quite a bit different each run. 10 days until Xmas. Anything could happen that day. Just the 2m temps have gone from the 30s to now the 50s in 3-4 runs for 18z 25 Dec. Who knows

The uncertainty of that timeframe is making this more interesting. Beats the steady march of warm Pac air that would arrive with Santa like we were looking at few days ago. This could be fun...or not.
