Few pics from last weeks hike.

Make sure you go to diamond beach for a sunset, and the Snaefelsnes peninsula was incredible.

I had a trip planned to Alaska next month and when I rent to book my rental I had to cancel my flight. The flights from Buffalo to Ancourage were cheaper than I've ever seen, I thought there had to be a catch and there was. It was $3500 for a rental car for 10 days up there, just insanity. They are renting Uhauls up there and using them instead, but with gas so high it would be similar pricing. Instead I booked a trip to Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming for $1000 for 10 days. Air bnb prices were pretty cheap up there for next month. 2k total for 10 days isn't too bad to explore yellowstone, tetons, and glacier national park. Plan to hike about 100 miles in 10 days up there. Let me know if you have any questions about Iceland, I went there for 2 weeks a couple years ago. Still my favorite trip of all time.

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 445 PM EDT FOR NORTHEASTERN ERIE AND SOUTHERN NIAGARA COUNTIES... At 349 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Kenmore, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated.

Quite the storm More on last night's storms (7/7/2021): This annotated closeup image shows a peak wind* of 92 knots (102 mph) measured about 500 feet above the ground level at 9:53 PM EDT, near Campville, NY. Winds at ground and treetop level were likely a little weaker, but this lends credence to the unofficial 92 mph report received from south of Apalachin. * (Technically, the radar measures just the component of the wind towards or away from the radar. But since the wind direction in this case was SW to NE and pretty much spot-on directly towards the radar, actual wind velocities were likely not too much higher than indicated).

It really did, sad times. Save the nasty weather for fall/winter please!

* At 216 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Tom niziol had a great post about this on his facebook. Pretty amazing meteorological phenomenon.
