Frictional effects causing some lift I believe...sort of like a pileup, airmass gets backed up slightly and lifted and wrings out precip as it moves from lake to over land... At least that's my crude understanding.

Ah yes, frictional convergence based on the coastline shape and then orographic lifting. We've been getting squat in western Wayne cty...bummed. Can't even get the grass fully covered! My kids are NOT happy...lol

We have many of those things you've mentioned along the lake erie shoreline. They used to hold ice hockey tournaments and winterfests on Lake Erie when the lake used to freeze (which used to be every year)...

We also have this massive ice rink downtown that makes the wintertime and christmas extremely festive

That looks fun. Really bummed, seems Christmas season went by extra quickly this year. Can we extend by a month or so? ;)

I do wonder if sometimes having too much ‘computing power’ just confuses them. Definitely seems it has lost its luster from the days it would nail something a week out.
I remember it called the Storm of the Century nearly 7 days out (might of been more). Could be I’m just glamorizing the memory of it.

The 1993 triple-phase was showing on models at least 5 days out, maybe more. I distinctly remember being in the Met labs with my classmates drooling over those maps.

Interesting read for GFS upgrades recently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Forecast_System

Do we actually believe that local tv stations have in-house models?  There is no way some broadcast meteorologist is writing code and inputting data that is going to be better than NCEP. It takes millions of dollars and thousands of man hours to build a weather model.  When they say they use in-house models it means they put their stations name on a off run of the hi res NAM.

Too bad they couldn't incorporate some AI into the developing process...

Omgggg I have more hours played in that game then every game combined. I still play it some weekends. There are a few full servers. I’ve met a few irl friends that played from wny in that game. I mainly played assault but transitioned to tam over time. Do you know reflex, gimix, perfection/aud1e, xios, Mercury, tierce? What game mode did you play?

Mostly DM and some CTF. I honestly can't remember the names, but used to play a ton and have a blast.
