  1. My total rainfall for April was 5.69", but only .16" over the last two weeks.  YTD now stands at a robust 18.94".  MDT checks in at 4.41 for the month and 16.55 YTD.

National high of 106 at Rio Grande Village, TX and low of 11 near Stanley, ID.

Over the years, both Horst and Elliott would refer to Lanco's official numbers as being recorded at MU. I must have misunderstood what they were communicating. At any rate, thank you for the clarification. I honestly thought all along that our official numbers were recorded in Millersville. Learned something new today!

Well, I would agree with you (and them) that MU is more of the official record keeper for Lancaster; it's just that the NWS is only going to cite their official sites for record keeping, I would imagine.  For one, LNS has only been recording observations since like 1999, whereas MU I believe goes back to something like 1914??  LNS also doesn't keep any snowfall data, which is reason enough to scorn them haha.  Heck, the Filtration plant near downtown Lancaster would probably serve as a better site as well.  At least they have records going back to the mid 70s and track snowfall to some degree.  In any case, MU would clearly have the most extensive climate record, along with the most attention to detail and record keeping.  They deserve the title ha.

    MU officially hit 90 today.

Saw that! MDT topped out at 89. Like I said, not even close :D

Low of 60 at my place. Feels like a hot one.

    .CLIMATE...
Record high temperatures were set at the following locations
    today (Monday):

    SITE 2024 OBS PRVS RECORD
    Altoona 86F 83F (1956)
    Bradford 82F 76F (1984)
    Williamsport 89F 86F (1942/1974)

Copied this from weather.gov. Someone earlier mentioned record was broken for Lancaster. I wonder why it wasn't on this list?

That was Millersville University, not LNS.

Yesterday's high occurred very late in the day - my highest number was at 6:17pm!

I dunno - I'm already at 82.2. My 90 degree day barometer is in the 80s by 11am. Well past that threshold.

Edit: Wait, what? Today is your 1st AC day???

    My goodness. :)

Yes I'm well aware of your 11am-80 rule and I love it!

Correct, first day of AC is today.  Windows and circulating fan did the trick up until this point.  Yesterday was the first day that was a little rough but we weren't home most of the day so that helped.  If there was a statistic for combined mowing days and days where the AC unit is running, you'd have to be one of the top guns in the Commonwealth haha.

A balmy overnight low of 59 after a very late day high of 83 yesterday. Felt like a summer morning when I left for work.

Same here with the 59.  Today is the day my AC comes out of its cocoon.  I don't think we get all that close to the records of 90/92 for today/tomorrow but I've been wrong before.

I received 3.42" of rain from Sandy. My station in no way is able to record wind speeds accurately but I do know for certain that we had hours of 50mph+ winds. I had to take many detours the following morning to work, trying to find a road that wasn't closed due to downed trees and power lines. WAY more than a thunderstorm here.

The main difference between Sandy and a thunderstorm was the duration of wind - sustained 40+ with gusts near 60 for several hours.

Here is what I have in my notes from back then....

Hurricane Sandy, worst storm to ever hit Jersey coast & NYC, 80-100mph winds, tons of flooding.  We got only 3-6" of rain & 50-60mph gusts. Lancaster set record low pressure of ~960 mb as eye passed right over.  Lowest pressure ever recorded for a North Atlantic storm.  Storm dumped multiple feet of snow from NC mountains through Laurels.
