  1. Sweet! Seems as though this latest round has favored southern VT. Been a relative lull up north it seems. Will be skiing in Brandon Gap tomorrow. Interested to see what sorts of depths I find there.
  2. Yeah I've seen those from a distance while skiing Sugarloaf but never took the time to skin over there. They do look sweet though! Are those natural glades? I had always assumed that they were specifically cut or logged at one time. My earlier point was simply that in VT, you can wander into the woods in many places along the spine and more often than not find perfectly spaced maple groves with minimal underbrush that is perfect for skiing. No cutting involved! That is what I've found to be pretty unique there.
  3. The Maine mountains are unbelievable good CAD spots. It seems Saddleback and Sugarloaf even moreso but I'm sure that's just because they average 70" and 50" more per year respectively, thus making it seem amplified. I remember taking an early April midweek trip to the Loaf back in my Sugarbush days when we had rain in the forecast in VT and a slushy 6" of snowpack. My buddy and I are driving NW past Errol NH and the snowbanks start shooting up and the rain turns to snow. Of course we were aware of the forecast and were pow hunting but it was the sheer snowpack at that time of year that surprised me most. For day in day out ski conditions though, nothing can touch VT imo. Pretty sure Jspin touched on this in the past but when you can cover up a cutter with 4" of snow, grooming that in overnight makes a world of a difference. That and the natural tree skiing in VT is far superior, if that's your thing. Lots of schwack in NH and ME.
  4. Saw it was rated as moderate today on that aspect. Do you and your partners have a good amount of experience in avy terrain? Took my AIARE 1 earlier this year and it did a pretty good job of spooking me haha.
  5. The general public that thought that last weekend was the best skiing of the season are going to be in for a surprise when they show up Saturday haha. Its only going to keep stacking up! Now to decide where along the spine to wander into the woods this weekend...
  6. Yup! The hippies from GBA did a great job of clearing out 4 or 5 ski lines for the rest of us hippies to enjoy. Nice area for a hike too! Saw some families snowshoeing. It's high up there too, parking lot at 2k I think? Even noticeably more snow than when you first pull off of 2.
  7. It was definitely solid on Sunday. Top 150 vert or so of the gladed zone could have used some more snow but you can pick your way down no problem. Everything below there was good to go!
  8. Yeah looks like central VT jacked. Bet the snow bowl and Rasta glades were a good time today.
  9. @PhineasC prepare to see a lot of snow. The skiing just up the road from you was pretty damn good.
  10. He'll soon be jamming the hell out of the air guitar to this while being doused in upslope
  11. Man what a strange track on the GFS last few runs. DelMarVA to Poughkeepsie to Ottawa to Millinocket. Gets the job done it seems though
  12. I personally think you do. An upslope signal like that is often $$$ for your area as depicted. I wouldn't be surprised if 75% of the snow out of this is orographic based for you on like 30% of the liquid that comes with it. A right side up storm to get the whole hill more or less in play would be just what the doctor ordered.
  13. 12z euro SSE of 0z at the onset of precip and then gets shunted east quicker. Weenie maps a bit more robust fwiw.
  14. Yeah weird track for sure but a pretty good thump on the front end and then prolonged upslope on the back end so hopefully solid net gainer. Will be checking out the Sherbie this weekend, anyone hear of latest conditions there?
  15. GFS and variants look borderline good for north country even into NW ME. Solid thump to dry slot/drizzle to upslope. Lots of moisture for pack augmentation. Would sign for that now tbh. Such a needle threader tho
  16. I guess we're keeping weekend discussion in this thread for fear of angering SNE non-skiers/sledders looks like 18z GFS and v16 are a touch west of 12z and bump up or maintain QPF across NVT and NNH (PFs aforementioned low level jet?). Weenie maps print roughly similar snow as 12z. Hopefully this is absolute paste topped off with some upslope fluff...or at least something lighter than paste. Right side up snow!
  17. A condo for a 2nd home type situation, sure. But if we're talking primary residence for an extended period of time, I'm trying to buy land and build. Having said that, not sure how much land is available in that area. This is a hypothetical exercise after all.
  18. Yeah it basically runs right up and over Phin into southern QC before slowly moving east. Great upslope signal but I'd be worried about dry slotting for a bit if I were him (not that he doesn't clean up either way). Regardless, countless runs left
  19. Less ideal track than GFS...but stronger
  20. Deep in Nebraska Notch in the Stowe area. ~200" per year, thousands of acres of BC skiing right out the door, 15 minutes or less to downtown Stowe/Waterbury and less than 45 to Burlington. Great MTB and golf in the area as well with awesome summers/relatively low humidity compared to down south.
  21. Decent upslope signal for the northern ski areas on the GFSv16? Looks like the low takes the Portland > north of Caribou route and is pretty slow to scoot out of there. 5+ days away and all that but in my limited experience that seems to be a pretty good track for the ol reach around snows.
  22. Drunk Uncle looks even better FWIW
  23. Well, maybe the spine would look a bit more snow caked, given a normal elevation gradient
  24. Was in Phin/Alex's hood this past weekend for an AIARE 1 course on Washington. Thank God the snow on 1/2 delivered! Would have been a bit miserable otherwise.
  25. radar showing solid echoes but checking on the cams, it seems as though only minor precip is happening throughout the region thus far
