  1. We have been below normal precip 9 of the past 12 months.
  2. Haha yeah but I do know this … they focus on clearing the problem and not on clearing the traffic. Happens with all crashes and backups. But you can’t think every single exit is somehow blocked. And clearing an exit would not take that long even if it were blocked. You can get those cars off the road in less than 15 hours. I do know that.
  3. I tend to agree with this. On that road most exits aren’t that far apart. You send emergency workers/police to every exit and start funneling cars off. You may not be able to get it back open, but to have cars just sitting there for that long seems to be entirely avoidable.
  4. Still gotta get me one of these rulers that measures in tenths
  5. That’s crazy. It’s also why I will get off the interstate any time that I feel weather is an issue. You can’t get off if something happens. And if on the interstate in Va I have the VDOT 511 app up and running at all times.
  6. Thinking that option 2 is very much on the table. Right now this is a light event, but I can see a blowup also.
  7. Those ns shortwaves are notorious for moving north as you approach. There was a system in 2011 that you kept warning about that did just that. And it did it in the last 24 hours. Not trying to be negative at all, just cautious with this setup. Your option 3 doesn’t scare me as much as option 1. A system that is scooting to far nw might still throw some front end goodness at us.
  8. Please, please always post snow pics. I got quite the thrill today from seeing them. I even scoured the traffic cams so I could see more. I couldn’t be happier that you guys got snow. Shit happens. It didn’t snow here. So what? If I’m so petty that I can’t be happy for my fellow forum mates then I don’t need to be here and I seriously need to have a talk with myself. BTW, do we still have the photo thread? I think it would be great to start a winter photo thread and pin it. Also, BTW, don’t anybody dare start the next long range thread. You see what happens when a pro does it
  9. When people say “north” I’m assuming they are looking at the surface. If anything this run at h5 is actually a tad further south (heights). But the question I wanted to pose is anybody worried that this actually does trend north, as in too far? The reason I ask is that ns systems are notoriously modeled too far south at range. Just curious what you guys think.
  10. You can count me out tracking any more storms with a precip min right over my head. I’ll just wait and look out the window lol.
  11. Without disappointment, there would never be joy. Balance in all things.
  12. It’s always location centric but the HRRR was awful on the nw edge. Simply awful from about 8-12 hours out.
  13. @Bob Chill I love ya man but just give me precip and you’ll never hear a complaint. Ever. This cutoff was brutal. Literally 20 air miles south of me is a warning level snow. I got 3/4”. 10 miles north there is literally nothing. I hate missing because of precip. I can live with rain lol. We’ve had about 2” of precip here since Nov 1 But I am happy you guys got a good snow. It’s fun seeing the excitement.
  14. Also, does anybody have any data from Loudoun county? Told some friends yesterday that I thought it might be a situation where se Loudoun got a foot while nw Loudoun got nothing. Any info would be appreciated.
  15. Looks like you guys got a really good storm. Amazing cutoff. If you look at the Va traffic cams you can see it. About 3/4” here, 10 miles north nothing, and looks like several inches about 15 miles south. Can someone give me an amen on my March 2009 call? Pretty good comparison on that cutoff. How about it @clskinsfan, @EastCoast NPZ? Lol
  16. Sorry Ji. I’m sure I did MUCH better than you
  17. Given a choice of any weather occurrence that I despise more than anything, I would choose missing out on a winter event because of a lack of precip number one without any question. I’d rather it be 60 and rain.
  18. Only saving grace here is that it’s 37/30 so we probably start as snow if anything even falls.
  19. @clskinsfan @EastCoast NPZ we are pretty much toast.
  20. If we get 3” I will consider that a huge win. Many look at those maps and don’t really realize how sharp that cutoff on the nw edge can be.
