  1. Grass is getting covered now. Just a steady light snow here. Roads will be next as the sun lowers.
  2. Don't be a pessimist now. lol You'll see more later in Nov and Dec. The patterns I'm seeing for then should do you well a time or two.
  3. Looks like Marshall, MN is heading for a record for Oct. They're reporting 4" as of 11 am and the record is 4.5" 10/2/1999 with 4" 10/13/1960 & 10/10/1970. Still snowing with another heavy band moving through SW MN. Pipestone will be near record as well with 3.5" at noon. 6" 10/17/1937 & 4.2" 10/23/1932 & 4" 10/25/1918 - 10/9/1970 - 10/20/1980
  4. Sat images showing decent convection across SD and S MN. Cauliflower look. Cirrus somewhat obscuring tho. Guess models where taking that into account and it'll probably pan out to some good numbers down there. Looking for my snow to start later this aftrn or evening. Reports from SW MN showing 4-6" so far.
  5. Looks like the northern areas are in for a whollop later this week. Even half that for this time of year is impressive. We will see. After today's event, and tomorrow's, the system coming later this week is a bit stronger. The strong ENE winds off of the Lake could really dump a lot of snow along the ridges here Thurs night. Duluth's record is 10.6" 10/27/2017.
  6. And more to come tomorrow. Only flurries my way today.
  7. DSM 7.4" 10/27/1980 Ankeny to the north DSM 6.9" 10/27/1980 Indianola to south DSM 5.0" 10/27/1980 Newton to the east DSM 6.7" 10/26/1997 Guthrie Center to west DSM 7.0" 10/26/1997 Looks like this area is seeing heavier snows a little early and quite significant just like these past years even if DSM is just outside the heavier stuff. Very impressive event today.
  8. Yep, wild Oct like I said before. Enjoy your fun in the snow guys And BTW, Des Moines record snow in Oct is 7.4" 10/27/1980, 6.8" 10/26/1997, and 4.8 10/27/1925
  9. Snow reports around here showing 1-2" today. Temps in the mid 30's. This would have been more if it would have fallen at night.
  10. Snowing this a.m. with about 1/2" on the ground. Melting now and turning over to rain. 3-6" possible on the ridges where it tends to be colder than right near the lake where I am.
  11. Significant snows running a little early this year. Records show for Duluth that, although snow is common, this amount is usually observed during the last week of the month.
  12. Rather windy last night with the frontal passage, and today highs in the low-mid 40's. Cold stuff. We'll see how the snow potential for here pans out soon enough.
  13. Yep, it is all that so far with more to come. 2020 in the Duluth area has seen quite a few top 5 records in both the high and low categories.
  14. 0.8" here overnight. Much needed. Leaves are at peak right in the town here. We always are late in TH.
  15. You can add Halloween storm Oct31-Nov2 1991: El Nino
  16. Record yesterday here in Duluth. Awesome day yesterday. RECORD EVENT REPORT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DULUTH MN 0725 AM CDT SAT OCT 10 2020 ... RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE SET AT DULUTH MN... A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 80 WAS SET AT DULUTH MN YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 76 SET IN 1930.
  17. Interesting weather fact from Ft. Ripley October 1820. 11" of snow from the 11th-14th. Still stands as the most significant early Oct snowfall for that area. Fantasy of a bygone era? https://www.climatestations.com/minnesota-weather-for-1820/
  18. A very cool weekend here with a.m. temps in the upper 20's, and aftrn highs mid-upper 40's. But milder weather on tap this week. Sure could use some rain though.
  19. UP Mich is more like mountain environment of the west. Short summers and heavy snows.
  20. Maples were peaking a week ago, with poplar/birch near peak when I was on a drive that way over a week ago. Enjoy your time up there. Milder temps coming next week with some shwr chances, but still, it's been a chilly start to Oct for sure.
  21. Not quite right with that forecast. It ended avg-much warmer NW areas and avg-much cooler in the SE areas.
  22. Oct 1st feels more like Halloween. Lets see how interesting this month will be.
  23. Ending Sept mixed. A month of extremes.
  24. Cloudy/cool here the last couple days with some much needed rain falling today. Rivers need to come up so salmon can spawn. They're barely running right now, and some of the mouths are closed off with gravel bars from lake waves. During the warm spell we had, the salmon were off the Agate Bay break wall, and many fisherman were having real good catches, including my son, who dropped off a nice king fillet. Very tasty!
