  1. @SteboAny chance we see derecho type activity over southern MI? The setup reminds me a lot of 5/31/98. I'd hate to have that roll through at 3am instead of 7am.
  2. Found the deepest "drift" in my yard...4 inches. Surrounded by maybe a half inch with grass sticking out. Winds never got over 35 here. This might be the biggest disappointment I've had out of all the SEMI busts. Just enough to turn the roads to garbage and not even enough for a real white Christmas.
  3. My grass is still poking through the snow in Macomb Township.
  4. The entire winter 2013-2014 was incredible. If I recall correctly we didn't have a high above freezing from late January through April. I had snow cover in my yard from New Year's through the last week of April and some of the parking lots had snowpiles until the end of May.
  5. I feel like no one in Michigan has it worse than Macomb County, and Macomb Township in particular. Shelby Township can get 8", Mt. Clemens can get 8", and we'll get 3". Then it melts. We've had one 10"+ snowfall since 2014, IIRC. I'm just happy for a white Christmas.
  6. The UKMET track swinging it south and probably back around to Florida is interesting, in a slapstick "Coyote getting repeatedly hit by boulders while chasing Roadrunner" kind of way. A cursory glance through historical track records seems to indicate that has never occurred, so it seems unlikely. Hopefully it follows the set of tracks that show it landfalling and then shooting into the Atlantic.
  7. Give it 20 years and Florida will have hurricanes and unlivable wet bulb temperatures!
  8. I vote we rename this thread the "StantonParkHoya Tropical Update Thread", and every post must be about predicted impacts to his zip code.
  9. Just based on how stubborn this storm is, I fully expect Ian to crawl up to a low-end Cat 2 before it makes landfall again. Or maybe just start doing donuts around Florida.
  10. We've been getting good snow since pretty much 3pm.
  11. Well, already got about 4 inches in my yard with about 4-6 hours of snow to go. First decent snow event for me in a long time.
  12. I've been getting steady snow for almost an hour now, but it's mostly tiny flakes with some snowglobe snow mixed in.
  13. Got a really nice set of layers in my yard, ice, then sleet, now the snow is starting and rates are picking up. Hopefully I don't kill myself walking over to the school to pick my kids up.
  14. Very much looking forward to someone 10 miles north of me or 10 miles south of me getting a good 6+ inches. The only nine incher I'll have to worry about anytime soon is the one I can't talk about in public.
  15. I picked up another half inch or so today, perfect sledding topper. I'm around 4.5-5 total in my yard for both days. When I cleared my driveway there was about a quarter inch layer of snow so compacted that it basically welded itself to my driveway.
  16. I'm watching the snow blow off my roof and pretending it's a blizzard out.
  17. There is only one Macomb, says the guy with 4 inches of cement and nary more than a rumble of thunder in 11 years.
  18. I have a two stage EGO electric that is torquey as hell. I imagine it's going to chew through this stuff like butter, but if my snowblowing experience follows the pattern this storm has set the blower will probably burst into flames as soon as I turn it on.
  19. I am looking forward to testing my new electric snowblower with this trash.
  20. SSDD. Same snow, different day. I guess the lesson is, don't move to Metro Detroit if you want interesting weather.
  21. I fired up the grill and am cooking bratwurst outside with no coat, got maybe 4.5 out in the yard and I'm staying bone dry on the deck. Bust.
  22. Deepest part of my yard, 3". Most of the yard is a good inch lower. When the temperature drops and all this freezes up it's going to be a nightmare. I might be able to go pick up my entire yard as one sheet.
  23. My kids just went out to play in the snow and came right back in, saying it hurts when it hits them and it's too heavy to do anything with. Absolute garbage snow.
  24. It's not so bad, Michigan is supposedly going to be one of the few livable places after climate change accelerates.
  25. Snow finally finished covering the grass in my yard. Deepest part of the cover is 1.5" and it's only lightly snowing. Starting to think I'm gonna struggle to hit 4".
