This is quite a storm here. Especially seeing as we probably only have 4-5” of new snow once this is all said and done. Obs/webcams/road conditions suggest blizzard criteria will easily be met across northwestern portions of DVN’s CWA. That, combined with their forecast of only 1-2” for IC and 2-3” for CR, they really dropped the ball with this one. As much as I hate to say it.

This is glorious. Easily hardest snow I've seen in at least a few years.

peeks of average to above average temps finally arriving around 2/17-2/19. Guessing people will be getting tired of the cold by then
lol.....no.

Light snow has commenced. Didn't have rain or sleet, so that's a plus. 36.5º.

I wouldn't worry much about what the temperature does between now and the flip early this afternoon.
Still think we'll see about 2"-3" of new snow this afternoon.I'm not worried, I'm just being a smart ass. Hoping for 2", 3" seems high, but possibly attainable.

Up to 37º. Odd.

34.7º here this morning. I'm thinking 2" max here at this point. I can definitely see some areas overachieving and others underachieving. Anxious to see just how robust some of these bands can get this afternoon.

RC said they are shifting more impact based, so with the wind/blowing snow/rapid temp drop factors, that may be why they went with a warning despite amounts generally staying under criteria.
At the end of the day, I agree more with an impact-based system, just not sure those counties will experience anything drastically different from the rest of N IL. The general public doesn't know and doesn't care about "criteria" anyhow.

LOT with warning for Watch areas. WWA for 2"-5" north of I-80. Beats the modeled snow eater from 4 days ago.
Quite interesting. Definitely wouldn't have thought they'd do that. Haven't really seen anything that would meet the requirements.

Final call for Aurora: 3.0in
My call for McHenry as well, though may be a bit high.

got an advisory for 3 to 6 with a glaze of ice and 35 mph winds post frontal
I think that's a good call for your area.
I'm assuming LOT's watch will also end up an advisory and the rest of N IL north of 1-80 gets one as well.

Right...but it's still annoying. Is UHI/albedo causing this?
I can assure you there is no urban heat island significantly affecting temps in McHenry or Lake Zurich. The snow on the ground is keeping us this cool, if the ground were bare, we would likely be into the 40s.
Different story in the heart of the city, certainly. And that will likely be a big player into the accums in the city with such marginal temps as is.

That's what happens when you play with pigs. You both get dirty, but they like it.

Let's be clear. Temps tomorrow could be a bit of an issue, but using today to try to gauge what is going to happen tomorrow is not really useful. Totally different circumstances.
Didn't say otherwise. Yeah, tomorrow we'll have clouds, but also actual warm air advection.

The immediate metro is the only area overachieving, which is pretty much the norm in these cases.
The rest of N IL has temps ranging from the mid 10’s to mid 20’s.
.I don't live in the immediate metro and I'm sitting at 36º.

Hoping it can at least maintain itself to get me to 2". Currently around 1.4" or so. Though no doubt at least 2" of snow fell, but it's been melting and compacting as fast as it's been falling. Still above freezing here as well.
