Yes...it's a winter weather forum, after all.
I would much rather have snow with highs in the 25-35 range than have 10 degrees and dry weather. But I understand some prefer the extreme cold and dry.

My high on Monday has been increased by a whopping 15 degrees ! Maybe just maybe the highs will keep trending warmer next week. I have no interest in high temps below 15. Do some of you people actually enjoy extreme cold ?

I edited the title to change the dates to Feb 7-12, as there is growing consensus of a prolonged cold snap. IMO, how extreme on any given day is still TBD.
6z GFS still shows significant cold temps here...and that's even before the true cold drops down around Days 7-9. Seems like more of a radiator set-up overall, where nights are extremely cold but it warms up (relatively speaking) during the day because the airmass itself is not brutal...though still colder than normal. It's like the freezer keep regenerating, with all of the snow cover and consistent high pressure in a colder-than-normal airmass. It shows 8 consecutive days of subzero low temps here, with some days not getting much above 0...not easy to do this time of year. Really an amazing GFS run for prolonged arctic cold, verbatim...noting the usual op run caveats further out in time.
Shouldn't you edit the dates to Feb 5-12 ? I think the arctic air arrives in some areas on the 5th ?

Has Indy ever went all of January and February without hitting 50 ? At this rate I'm not sure it will even hit 50 before April.

We could be in for quite the stretch of winter weather folks. Might even be one for the books
6 straight days of Temps below 15 is impressive.

Yeah the Euro ends its run with a big cold wave pretty far south. GFS shows potent cold @384 as well. Wind chills of -15 in the texas panhandle. It would seem it's here for awhile.
I mean at some point the higher sun angle and longer days have to put a stop to the cold, right ? Or is it just going to go on forever ?

I think as progged, this airmass would be able to get below zero at IND even without snowcover. It is hard to get way below zero without snowcover though (say colder than -10F), especially around 40N. We'll see though... maybe IND will have a snow pack.
God I hope there's a snowpack, because it would suck to have days of freezing cold with a bare ground.
-
Why is it always guys who wear shorts in the cold ? Have you noticed that guys seem to do this more than women ?

Indy probably wont even have a snowpack by the time next weekend rolls around. Going to be hard to get below 0 with a bare ground !

KIND says two of the top analogs for this weekend are 1-18-94 and 1-20-85.

looks like we'll have a significant amount of sun the first half of this week, and any brutal cold next week will also have sunshine so turning out to be a much brighter first half of the month than January had
The sun makes a big difference mentally

Not with the R/S line flying northeastward.
you think 6" is doable in Indy ?

Looks like about 1/2" so far.

Snowflakes have begun

I would love to see 6" but I am going with 4" here.

KIND pulled the trigger on warnings for it's northern tier.
I'm a little surprised there are warnings all the way to the Indy area.

we had our first sunset after 5 pm a couple days ago. Next big milestone on our march to spring is 10 hours of daylight, which we'll get on Feb 2.
I'm just glad were gaining daylight in the morning. I don't like 8am sunrises !

Polar vortex is headed south:
Well apparently it wont have much impact on February since TWC is predicting a very warm February.

We moved here from Edmond, Ok.
I am from Georgia. I miss the sun. At least the sun is out today. Cold, grey with bare ground is really depressing.

Looks like there's going to be some nowcasting my snow amounts here in Carmel, In, we are riding right on that line. Cold, grey, and no snow on the ground has made for a rough introduction to Midwest winters.
Where are u from ?

So you're saying most people on here prefer cold and snow over severe weather ?
