^ typical cold for a mid winter arctic outbreak.
I thought Feb was late winter? Dec = early winter. Jan= Mid Winter. Feb = Late winter. How can it be mid winter when it's only 20 days until met spring?

KIND says up to 6" possible through midweek.
-
TWC saying up to 8" of snow possible in Indy on Wednesday.

First below zero temp for ORD. Fun fact... it is the coldest first below zero temp at ORD since March 4, 2002, when it got to -7. Yes, March 4 was the first (and only) below zero reading in the winter of 2001-02.
Has ORD ever had a winter where it didnt get below 0 ?

GFS pitching a 16 day shutout for MSP. Zzzzzzzz indeed.
I'm sure you will get hammered in March.

What happened to the 1-2" in Indy ? Did it disappear ?

You seriously want to double GFS snow amounts 2 weeks out? If the fantasy range brutal cold the GFS is bringing happens Birmingham AL is gonna get more snow than we will lol. It's advertising 2014 cold and trust me we're not built for that, don't want it, MN and IA can keep it.
Extreme cold is cool for a couple of days, but I don't want it forever ! I'm definitely more a fan of big snow than big cold.

Then it's the other way around when spring comes. Warmth always gets farther north faster the farther west you go.
Honestly i think i'd rather be further west and get the cold and snow in winter and warmth earlier in the spring.

Is it just me or does it seem like this winter it's easier to get snow further south the further west you go ? That map is a good example. 30" in Central Missouri and due east in Louisville nothing. 40" in Northern Missouri and due east in Indy 9".

Man, that cutoff to the south is just brutal. I don't know if I can handle a 10" snow with 25" just 50 miles to my NW. We always get robbed
Looks like Indiana ranges from close to 0" in the south, to 30" in the north.

TWC's forecast of a warm February may be in jeopardy.

Lol lots of anxiety posting here. Above average temps after February 24. You heard it here first
I don't know. I'm starting to believe that we are entering the next ice age.

At least we don't live in DC where it's known for it's infamous snow hole. Are there any places in the midwest/lakes region that's a snow hole?
I bet DC has more 12"+ snowstorms than Indy, even though Indy is further north.

Buffalos coldest month in history is Feb 2015. It's 2nd coldest in history is Feb 1934.
I just find that incredible honestly. Isnt January colder on average than February ?

All things being equal, you're right that it's more difficult to get severe cold in mid-Feb...but in Chicago, record lows are still fairly cold (generally -10s) this time of year. The airmass has been building up north for awhile, and sun angle up there is still weak with relatively short daylight. Plus, there's extensive snow cover in the source region all the way down to here, which acts like a refrigerant.
I mean avg highs in Indy next week will be close to 40, and one day is forecast to have a high of 2 degrees. So essentially that's about the equivalent of having a high temp around 75 right ? I just cant imagine a high of 75 in Mid Feb in Indy. 5 straight days of 15 or below, so thats like a 5 day heatwave of 65-75 in Mid Feb.
-
I just dont see how it can even be that cold with what will be a Late October sun angle next week. Seems to go against science but what do i know ?

Oof. Tomorrow looks like our last high temperature above 10 for the foreseeable future. Lake Superior will be manufacturing ice this month.
Looks like you are forecast to finally get above 10 next Sunday !

Is there any end in sight ? Are we headed to the next ice age ?
-
3" for Indy, almost 2 feet for Ft Wayne lol.

How does this arctic outbreak compare to Dec 2017/Jan 2018 ? Indy had 12 straight days of 20 or below and 12 days of 6 degrees or lower in the morning.
Feb 5-20, 2021 arctic cold

That really surprises me that a city so far south can get so cold. 40N is really not that far north.
