  1. I’d take it at least feeling like winter and call it a win
  2. 35 with light rain. Few sleet pellets when it started about an hour ago
  3. Heavy snowstorm (15-20 inches in rdu) temps in 20’s, freezing line at the coast, on Christmas??? Weenie run of the decade
  4. Going to give today’s report based on yard mud conditions scale. 1 is dry as a rock in Saharan dessert 5 is wet enough for a bass pond. We’re sitting at a 4 right now, may call the hatchery this evening after this thunderstorm passes and see if they have any sales on some lunkers. Pretty sure the bushes next to my shed would make some good bass habitat.
  5. In the Triangle, at least the Raleigh area, it has been some time since we had more than a nuisance ice event. Not that I’d want one, but we have not had a significant freezing rain storm in years
  6. Bottomed our at 27 here last night. Frozen, crunchy ground. Winter like day today
  7. It wouldn’t shock me to see some black ice issues tomorrow morning. Everything it’s still soaking wet and it’s supposed to get well into the 20’s
  8. Had a nice burst of snow for about 10 min. Pretty with the Christmas lights on
  9. Picked up night at 0.40” overnight and this morning. Don’t think any model had near that amount. Wish we had more phasing, slower system to work with the cold air moving in. Feel like I’ve said that 1,000,000 times being in central N.C. Maybe we squeeze out some novelty flakes this evening. Certainly feels like winter, temps dropped to 39
  10. 41 with moderate rain. Brother in Urbanna, Virginia is reporting moderate snow and grass covered and cousin in Richmond has a coating as well
  11. I mean boundary layer is pretty warm but this is an interesting look. System phases much sooner and further west. Not a bad look at all. Still missing the cold at the surface but one would think flakes would be flying for at least a period somewhere in the piedmont with this setup
  12. This is actually very close and has continued to trend wetter/more phasing. It would not take much to make this setup work. It’s also interesting to note that this would be on the anniversary of the last major winter storm for most of the area
  13. Coldest morning of the year imby. 25 with heavy frost. Good coffee drinking morning
  14. Just had a very heavy shower push through with 30-40 mph wind gusts. Looks like it was the last of the rain for us. 1.72” storm total. Temp 66 after the rain Shower, 71 with sun right before
  15. First below freezing morning imby. 31 and clear
  16. Welp. Pattern looks craptastic for foreseeable future. At least we’ll dry out so we can enjoy our unseasonable warmth
  17. I seem to remember 2018 spending 7 days in a row below freezing with multiple snows even down East... mostly i agree, but that was epic!
  18. Bad reports of flooding in Iredell county
  19. Strangely it’s been very dry here compared to the western half of the state. I think we’ve been in a two month deficit for the first time in what feels like forever. That will definitely help mitigate the flood potential here somewhat though with the current rates it may not matter much
  20. Almost 3 inches in the rain bucket and the good stuff is just now getting to the triangle area. I think we’re going to land on the high end. I’d be shocked at less than 5 inches storm total looking at the radar here. Oh yea, 65 degrees and pouring atm
  21. I’d rather be burning days in this pattern now than in December or January. I guess that’s my point. If it doesn’t change (last year) then we can sulk in March. Patterns that actually allow sustained cold are so fleeting in the south I feel the odds are greater we get it in the good months if we don’t waste it now. Absolutely no science or anecdotal evidence to that statement just a gut feeling I’ve had having lived my life in the south. If we were locked in an arctic pattern now we’d be enjoying our November morning freezes for a week then hoping for the pattern to “reload” until January
  22. Already over an inch of rain here. Had some good thunder earlier. Rain bands look to be setting up nicely to our south. Feels like this has the markings of being an overachiever in the rainfall department
