  1. Last February in PA we got like 8-10 inches and the next day it was mid 70 degrees and I was snowboarding in a T-Shirt. It was great.
  2. What does it take to open the damn slides at whiteface? I know that they're basically all ice so snow doesn't stick too well, I guess they just need a certain wind direction and snow consistency for it to fill in? I would have guessed they'd be open after 29".
  3. Every 20 years we have a snowless feb and a march under 1 inch given that pattern, looks like were due.
  4. PF those shots are great! 10" of wet snow with 20" blower on top is ideal conditions forsure. The feeling of deep untouched snow as far as the eye can see keeps me coming back for more. You're living the dream dude!
  5. Glad you guys are cashing in! Looks great. I won't be able to make it up that way to ride til monday as I work in Pa sat night. Might take a different route early sunday am and stop at Tug Hill for some snowshoe/snowboarding (need a split) on the way up. Would be quite interesting with 3ft+ untracked, and an adventure in the least. I think that'll be more fun than stopping at friends in MA or somewhere in SVT on sunday. Would love to get a touring setup to checkout the RASTA and Bolton areas, but living in PA that doesn't make much sense, nor do I have a willing partner. Eventually.
  6. What was the snow depth between Turin and Lowville prior to the storm? Like 1-2ft depending on elevation? Was thinking of doing some snowshoe/snowboarding on Sunday. I wish that band was sitting about 10-20 miles south. I think they've picked up about 20" so far including the synoptic event as snow ridge reported 18" total at 7am and the place I'm eyeing is 5 miles north. Even more would be great. If I do end up going I will setup my camera and tripod and get some good solo powder shots on video.
  7. The hike to the summit of jay takes 15-20 mins from either side. I prefer the upper lifts to be shut off on powder days. You can normally get up to the summit as quick or faster by taking a lift and hiking, as opposed to the tram. Not sure about Stowe.
  8. I'm seriously considering ordering some giant snowshoes off Amazon and sending it up there sat night after work to snowboard the ~400-500ft ridges near Whetstone Gulf State Park and Snow Ridge on sunday. If the 3-4 feet they're calling for materializes, I am totally there. Everywhere in NNE is gonna be concrete aside from quebec and I've been craving some deep dry powder turns all winter.
  9. That clown map looks like another PNW style elevation dependent setup. I wonder if it will ski similar to the late January event, this one has a nice upslope slope look with more cold though.
  10. Anyone been to Le Massif de Charlevoix? Looks like a lot of great sidecountry terrain and great views. Would like to check it out sometime. Only ski area in Quebec I've been to is Mont Tremblant and I was pretty young.
  11. It hasn't been that dry has it? Also dreamplace to take a trip to would be Cordova, AK with (heli) access to the chugach mtns. They recieve the most snow in the world and it is often stable and skiable. Really gnarly terrain too. Not sure if I'd want to live there, I dont know if I can handle a population of just over 2,000. From wiki: "The Chugach Mountains of southern Alaska are the northernmost of the several mountain ranges that make up the Pacific Coast Ranges of the western edge of North America. The range is about 250 miles (402 km) long and 60 miles (97 km) wide, and extends from the Knik and Turnagain Arms of the Cook Inlet on the west to Bering Glacier, Tana Glacier, and the Tana River on the east. It is bounded on the north by the Matanuska, Copper, and Chitina rivers. The highest point of the Chugach Mountains is Mount Marcus Baker, at 13,094 feet (3,991 m), but with an average elevation of 4,006 feet (1,221 m), most of its summits are not especially high. Even so, its position along the Gulf of Alaska ensures more snowfall in the Chugach than anywhere else in the world, an annual average of over 1500 cm (800 in)."
  12. Those are sick shots, that line looks awesome. That entrance is a no fall zone forsure. Looks like theres some hidden ice and rock there too. How'd that look this time last season or does it never hold much snow?
  13. Showed something similar on the 6z. Way better than the cutters showing up 2 days ago. I'll be up in NNE the 1st-8th so I will be keeping an eye on this.
  14. 0z has that Miller A with chesco in the 9-14 range. But the GFS and NAVGEM 6z have the SLP cutting through Ontario. Who can guess which one will verify?
  15. Great pictures! I live on Chester county and my area definitely hit the jackpot on that storm. Further south and west along the MD border I'm pretty sure there were totals closing in on 40".
  16. 0z had it cutting over Minnesota. Been keeping an eye on it as I'll be in NNE during that time frame.
  17. I wish I was more in tune with the weather back then. Definitely one of my favorite at-home storm memories. Last January 8-11th, 2019 at Smuggler Notch is definitely the best event I've experienced with 38 inches. That was a huge positive bust with really localized upslope bands. Stowe, 4 miles south reported 'just' 27 inches. What an amazing experience and all-time east coast snowboarding. Also had two 2ft+ storms at Jay last march that were incredible and a few other foot+ pow days in southern vt that were fun but rocky... I got really lucky, especially since I was working full time in PA picking and choosing 7 days in advance on storms. This year has been much slower for me.
  18. I got 28 inches in SEPA from this storm. First time ever seeing thunder and lightning during a snowstorm.
  19. I'd love some nice snow tires on my 15 Forester XT but I'm from PA and we literally have under 3" of snow to date.. Huge snowhole in SEPA with philly under 2" for the season, they're normally at 22" right now. Anyways I come up to NNE at least once a month in the winter but I still dont think it's worth it. Never had an issue getting around up there yet, but I've definitely been on some white knuckle drives that would have been more comfortable with snows on. Also, I went to Big Boulder, PA yesterday and after riding Jay and wildcat the other week, it was depressing. Hard being a powder lover in PA, getting outta here soon.
  20. Yeah about 500-600ft and very gradual slope. Pretty much a massive terrain park as the mellow slope is perfect for those. Big 'culture' shock going from riding Jay and Wildcat two weeks ago. Not really my cup of tea but nice to check out on one of my few days off to ride. Elk is great, definitely worth the driv for more consistent snow and pitch. Rains to Canada they said.. A bit like today, some ice out on the hill and frozen slush at the lift boarding and exit points.
  21. Really light flakes in lake harmony, PA at Big Boulder. Just got up here, never been before. Not very big..
  22. Love magic, it's the reason my 2020 proto type 2 is beat to shit. Edges like a steak knife. Tuned it up as best I could a few weeks back while I was staying at grandpa grunts though. Would love to get to magic on a deep day that has a reliable base underneath it. Here's a clip there from last march, about 8-11" of dust on crust.
  23. I had some sleet driving out of philly at 7pm last night. It was 46F too.
