  1. Years ago a man whose home was about a mile from mine did something really stupid. He was tired of ants invading his home so he decided to go to the garage and get a gas can and pour the entire thing (!) around the font of his home where the ant hills were. A few minutes later he tossed a match on it. It thumped hard, easily heard inside my home. He was lucky to have survived his ordeal but he did about $100k worth of damage to the front of his house and broke windows out of homes across the street! Thanks to excellent response of our local firefighters (volunteer) they saved his home from burning down.
  2. Speaking of 06/01/2012 I was where these guys were by the WAWA and Jones Junction mere minutes after they recorded this. It was a FREAKSHOW! Also 06/04/2010 the Fallston area got clobbered by legit severe. Also missed the action by mere minutes. p.s. those guys use the f-word a LOT so be ready for that.

  4. Love this weather! I was running the 500k weed dragon Friday and I'd much prefer the chilly breeze and lower 60s (then) vs. upper 80s and sweating like a pig! We're lucky, tomorrow should be clear and nice. Not pool nice, but nice! The H3 (Hot/Hazy/Humid) crap will probably be here for Independence Day pool parties!
  5. Very heavy rain and some thunder. Very soothing to listen to!
  6. The whirring was quite noticeable at dawn, then as heavy cloud cover ensued, silence. Now it's getting brighter and they are singing. I'll have to take some sound levels. In the house with the windows open it's up to 44dB which is quite noticeable but not annoying.
  7. Yes I remember bad flagging on the northern outer loop of the beltway (695) back 2004. Lots of people learned from that with saplings and have 'em bagged now!
  8. The blue jays are going nuts here! They are absolutely cranked to 11 fighting over these things!
  9. Yes we got shafted too! Barely enough rain to water the garden. A few claps of thunder. That was IT!
  10. Yeah that's odd! Reminds me of the ole Goose of '85!
  11. In a yellow box for the first time this year. Seems a bit early but the lightning detectors are going off steadily now. All caught up on (dead) trees here so if it wants to blow 100 mph let it!
  12. Getting bright here, incredibly, it looks like we may not even get a drop of rain out of this!
  13. Trick extrication there, I'm good on a power saw but I don't mess with power lines unless a lineman says its OK and the (lines) are bonded and grounded! Someone's going to be using a hotspot tonight.
  14. A good place to watch them blow in is King fireworks parking lot. It's high and open and the risk of getting "lit up" from nearby lightning is very real. The capture was done with an app called Theodolite Pro for iOS. Been using it for over a decade. Works great especially on the 12 Pro Max! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/theodolite/id339393884 Unfortunately there is nothing close for Android users.
  15. Was working in New Freedom this afternoon, took this before bugging out! Radar:
  16. First > 70 DP for the year. Not liking this humidity.
  17. Checked last night around 2300 and sure enough the larger pin oaks were loaded with marchers. Right now the hum is quite noticeable inside the house through the screen. Fog hasn't burned off, not even close to it. Thank goodness they are still not close to the house, it's enough of a PIA to keep the 51 solar panels clear of pollen! Also, the fireflies were much more numerous. After today's heat that will only increase. Hopefully we have a good season for them! Brood X cicadas won't even be a distant memory in July when the dusk singers emerge. Now those are quite noisy and raspy but hearing those during an approaching thunderstorm is actually quite soothing to my ears! And speaking of yelling at them, at least in the case with the aforementioned singers, they don't even stop at a deafening thunderclap!
  18. The "electrical" sound is the song of the Magicicada cassini member. Its raspy sound is similar to the annual cicada here.
  19. Temp hasn't moved much but it has gotten considerably brighter in the past 15 minutes. Went from no noise to considerable humming. Seems like they are quite sensitive to light. Once insolation gets over 350W/m^2 the noise picks up noticeably.
  20. I welcome the cold air damming overlords. A bit of reprise before the abhorrent heat and humidity arrive with full on assault for the next four months!
  21. The cooler temps probably calms down the horny bugs' song!
  22. Def want to get that checked out. Charge could be low causing it to ice up. A clogged evaporator/filter can do this (or otherwise low airflow across evaporator coil). Systems that get low on charge are LEAKING, however and that should always be properly addressed. First time running AC for us. Prerequisite is usually DP of 70F or higher. We didn't get there but the pollen in the house was so bad my sinuses couldn't take it any more! Even though we got a few hundredths (TEMPEST shows 0.07 and the Young tipper recorded 0.04) it did help. Windows open, whole house fan ON, feels so much better like a pesky splinter that's been removed. Would like to see a nice quarter to half inch though over a few hours to wash the pea soup out of the gutters.
