  1. It was pretty strong here. Lasted maybe 10 seconds. Actually had a picture come off the wall. Headed back to the coast today to prepare for the locust. I read on Facebook that they mated with the murder hornets so....... I'll be back in mid September. Ya'll take care of the mountains the best you can. No telling what you might run in to this year.
  2. Came back home for a few days. We don't do tropical. Got in late last night and woke thinking I was in Hawaii. I don't remember the last time I've seen things so lush the first of Aug. Rained about all day and had a high of 69. I loved it. The past few of weeks on the coast have been brutal.
  3. Just letting everyone know I survived tropical Storm Arthur. I actually had to go indoors for a few hours and it stinks in there. #cooperreleasethehousekeepers ! Hope you guys don't wash away. Someone is going to get some ridiculous totals by Thursday. My gauge back home is already at 1.89.
  4. You guys must be rocking up there. My station back home has had three gusts in the mid to upper 50's in the last hour.
  5. Congrats! I had a high of 61 and a little rain this morning. I'm on the coast to ride this crap out. It's really eerie here though without many people. I've never seen it like this. As some know, my wife is a MD and she made me come to this house because she was afraid that she would bring it home to us. Worried about the ole' girl. Be safe mountain folk and hope you have great spring and summer weather. We deserve a hell of a winter next year!
  6. The accumulating snow is over, just left with flurries now. Looks to be a couple of inches. Cold, 21.4 with a stiff breeze. Was that our last shot? Could be. All I know is thank God daylight saving time is back.
  7. Nice shower now with moderate/heavy snow. Things are turning white quickly. Temps holding steady around 26. Winds are starting to kick up too. Had a gust to 33 a few minutes ago.
  8. Heavy dusting here as well. Temps are holding steady in the mid to upper 20's. Radar looks pretty juicy upstream.
  9. There are fish bigger than trout stuck between the teeth of the ones I catch. Two words my people; salt and water. Although I do love a smoked trout sandwich. Been a beautiful evening. Decent chill in the air, calm wind. Nice moon.
  10. Rain. And more rain. Woke to thunder this morning and it has been pouring ever since. Almost an inch already. I'm sick of rain.
  11. Had right at 4 inches for the two waves. Good to see but as BH pointed out we very well might go the entire season without a snowfall of more than a few inches at a time. Even in the mountains time is running out. Maybe we can get one those March paste jobs that drops 12 inches of Appalachian applesauce on us. Love those types of storms.
  12. That was a good band that came through. I just measure 2 1/2 inches for a total today. Maybe add some more tonight. Temp is 23.1.
  13. They're not kidding. It just started to hammer down here. Over an inch and counting. Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 537 PM EST Fri Feb 28 2020 NCZ033-048>050-052-053-290000- Buncombe NC-Haywood NC-Yancey NC-Madison NC-Mitchell NC-Avery NC- 537 PM EST Fri Feb 28 2020 ...AN AREA OF HEAVY SNOW WILL IMPACT MADISON...MITCHELL...AVERY... NORTHERN HAYWOOD...NORTHERN BUNCOMBE AND YANCEY COUNTIES UNTIL 700 PM EST... At 530 PM EST, Doppler radar indicated the leading edge of an area of heavy snow along a line extending from 9 miles east of Erwin to near Dandridge, and moving southeast at 15 mph. Locations to be impacted include... Spruce Pine, Burnsville, Marshall, Newland, Weaverville, Mars Hill, Banner Elk, Hot Springs, Elk Park and Bakersville. Very heavy snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour will be possible in these areas, along with winds around 25 mph. In particular, driving could be dangerous as the snow band moves across mountain passes, such as Sam`s Gap on I-26 in Madison County. Visibility may be sharply reduced in brief, heavy snow.
  14. Or maybe more depending on ratio. That snow last night had to be 15 to 20/1.
  15. Nope. I'll have clear skies and 61 degrees while every mountain around me gets dumped on. It's sad.
  16. From GSP... .........We hesitate to call it NW Flow because the flow has a much more westerly component to it..... This is not good for my mountain. Usually cuts my totals quite a bit. But you North Georgia and Upstate peeps get some love... ........Some of the guidance is showing the potential for something more across northeast GA and the western Upstate (again!), to the left of the track of a vort center dropping down through the upper trof early Saturday morning......
  17. Ended up with a little over 3 inches this morning. I had a high today of 24.6 so not much melted except in the real sunny places. Wind has seemed to calmed down little but still quite breezy. Lets see what tomorrow might bring. I'll take a repeat of last night in a heartbeat this winter.
  18. I have no clue how much fell overnight because of the wind. I'll try to get a total later. Still moderate snow with wind gusting to 46. It's cold, 14.2 degrees. For me, this is the best event of the season.
  19. Been under a heavy squall for the last 20 minutes that has laid down about an inch. Probably the best rates of the year. I love sideways heavy snow. Over 2 inches now. Temps continue to drop, down to 22.7 with 22 mph winds.
  20. Moderate snow and it's laying good now. Temp is down to 28.1. Winds are really picking up. Just had a gust to 34. I might get my 4 inches after all. I would like for the radar to fill in better though.
  21. Light/mod snow temp - 32.1 Wind - 14/22 Just starting to stick
  22. I'm afraid this event is going to continue the "moister starved frontal passage" theme. Even upstream radar to the NW looks anemic. Temps are still in the low 40's as far west as Nashville as well. I'm sure some snow will be squeezed out but but I'm not expecting the 4 inches that are progged. With all that being said, sometimes these flow snow scenarios can surprise. We'll see.
  23. Back to all snow now with some heavier rates. Turned to sleet first then to snow. Temps have backed off a little as well, 32.1.
