  1. Had an overnight low of 22.7 with a skiff of snow and a high of 41.5 with bright sunshine. First day that it really felt like fall. Hard to sleep last night from the sound of all the bugs dying. I just smiled and rolled back over.
  2. 2019 First Flakes here! Went from 64.3 to 33.1 in a little over 4 hours. Winds are tolerable. I did have a gust to 37 a little while ago. The first cold front that says winter is near.
  3. I agree. I think the last few years have shifted the bar a little. We forget what a nice leaf out is. This year isn't one.
  4. Around here I think we are in trouble. Lots of brown patches and some trees are just shedding before any color. Last year was pretty horrible compared to the norm. We'll wait and see but just don't believe they're going to be all that pretty this year. Never seen a "delayed" peak season that was great. But as usual, there will be some areas that will have good color. If anyone is planning a trip up should get the local scoop from where they'll be.
  5. High of 62 today with a touch of breeze. Signs of things to come. Looks like we've still got some heat to get through though.
  6. Moved back to the hills from Salter Path yesterday because of ANOTHER hurricane. Lost the pool, gazebo, and boardwalk and steps to the beach last year. Just had all those things rebuilt this spring. Picked up our return permits before we left yesterday so I'll be going back next week. Hopefully, they won't be required. We better have a killer winter this year to make up for it.
  7. Going to be hot here in Salter Path as well. That's why I had them put in an ocean out back. Pricey, but worth it when it heats up. My station in Yancey Co. says it's 66.9. Can that be right?
  8. This storm has been far less impressive than I thought it was going to be. Mountains chewed it up. Only .19 inches of rain and a little breezy and that's it. Maybe some redevelopment later? I want to hear some noise.
  9. We got lucky being under that single band for a couple of hours. I ended up with right at 3 inches.
  10. Same here. Very pretty snow. Not much wind yet. Reminds me of winter!
  11. Low Temp - 23.5 Wind - W@6 Skies - Clear Ground - Frozen mud
  12. Zero percent chance of rain today. It's raining. I'm so sick of rain.
  13. Had a half inch overnight and another half with a burst around mid-morning. A slow rise in temps today to a high right now of 36.2. I only need another half to reach 40 for the year. The big storm coming the first week of April should put me over 50.
  14. I agree. But... there's another one coming in a little while. If we knew how they were going turn out it would really suck. I hope we never know for sure.
  15. WWA issued for us up this way. At least it's a little something. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 1 PM EST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of half an inch to one and a half inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze expected. * WHERE...Portions of western North Carolina. * WHEN...Light precipitation will develop after midnight tonight and should change to all rain by 1 PM EST Friday. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
  16. Had a low of 6.6 here and had a gust of 33 at that time. Puts the wind chill at about -18. Bright sunshine now.
  17. Already down to 18.9 and breezy. Going to be a three dog night for sure. Add in some flurries and it'll feel like it's supposed to. Anyone have any thoughts about Thurs night/Fri morning?
  18. Light snow pretty much all day. It didn't really amount to anything but it was nice to have a winter day. Had a daytime high of 22.5, back down to 16.7 now. Looks like a chilly few days before it warms up this weekend and rains. What a winter!
  19. About a half inch here with 19.5 degrees and a wicked wind. Wonder if this will be the last time we see snow this year. I'm about half of my yearly average snowfall. This winter has been pretty dismal, to say the least.
  20. I had a gust at 64 at 9:46. That's high for my location. But more impressive today has been the sustained winds in the upper forties for the past 12 hours. You can dodge a gusty wind but when it blows this hard you pretty much have to stay out of it. I hate the wind. It's eerie.
  21. A little snow mixing in with the rain this morning at 37.1 degrees.
  22. Same for me here. I think I may have bottomed out already. Got to 32.2 and now up to 32.8. Almost all rain now. The King Street cam in Boone looks nice this evening. http://www.resortcams.com/webcams/king-street-boone/
