The bulk of SE is east of the anacostia river (not capitol hill SE) is pretty much elevation and hills. You can actually see it from I295 or if you look across Sousa bridge. The whole horizon going from say, Northeast to the naval base area. I'm actually at 143 feet. Neighbors behind me are over 180-200ish, and down the block 75. Its like that everywhere here. Since all the news coverage is based in NW they tend to not pay too much attention. Navy yard proper is a concrete jungle now since the retrofit, hot as blazes in the summer. Now 34 degrees. Cars and non paved surfaces have a light snow coating. Streets seem just wet right now.

Yeah, I'm not near the downtown core. Stuffs wet and slippery at the same time, like it's caught between ice and rain.
-
Icy rain, tree branches lightly coated. Ice crystal skim on top of cars. 35 degrees in SE DC feels a lot colder. No whining here.

For the hip MD crowd, locator acroynms. Cut, paste and save for future reference. Some of these you know, some are new. Just killing time until the next storm. Me too I was in school...people were tying towels to their shoes and wearing football cleats to walk on ice. One old man had strapped broom poles that were jagged to the sides of his legs. Crazy stuff. -
The bulk of southeast washington which lies across the river says hold my beer.

Temps bouncing all over the place now, 33 to 37, then 35. Now/34/35. Still snowing strong but some melting in spots as the lakes fall. This is one weird storm.
-
LOL that's messed up.
-
Things looking good now for SE DC...huge difference since the rain onset 3 hours ago. Temp currently holding at 33 degrees. Streets covered in thick slush. Slippery, wet snow.

Everything is getting covered rapidly here in SE DC...still hovering at 35/36 degrees. Streets white, car toppers, grass...I have no idea why its sticking now at these temps and it wasn't awhile ago. Looks great!
-
Thick, pretty snow falling like crazy now. No stickage to anything, may as well be salt. Temp now down to 35. This is one funky system.
-
Heavy, large icy flakes falling straight down in SE DC...temps crashing quickly, now down to 36 from 39 half an hour ago. Streets wet for now.
-
43 in SE DC down from 46 forty minutes ago.

This. I have no idea how the heck they measure. I did a video of that storm, had just a shade under 24" in SE. -

Urban heat island could apply to any city I would think...Baltimore is just about concrete. Being slightly northward helps them it seems. But Downtown DC isn't the same as the entire city. Elevations are on the borders and the low point is downtown. That 'heat island' is downtown were there are lots of cars and heavy traffic most of the time. Neighborhoods aren't similar. -

Looks like a picture postcard outside. Everything is white and fluffy...chunky fine flakes falling in a cloud. Would be the coolest if this ran till the next storm system. They say snow brings snow... -

The only people who say DC 'can't' accumulate on roads live smack downtown at the lowest point and talk as if a microdot is the whole city. I'm in far SE (about a 1/4 mile from the line) and I can guarantee stuff accumulates here. Had too much ice/sleet yesterday and it put a nice crust over the snow. The local meteorologists are guilty of this nonsense too...all the reporting is in NW as are the stations and even the SE measuring station is around the Navy yard I believe with tons of concrete there. -

Radar on CWG is a thing of beauty for DC, Eldersburg, Columbia, Silver Spring, Aspen Hill, Alexandria, Franconia, Dale City, St Charles, Towson and B more. WHOOOP. Towson, Manassas and Centerville just getting clipped. -

It's all over but the shouting. A fresh coating of snow to finish up in SE DC...older snow under ice, crunchy and slick. Snow plows never made it through the neighborhood but I got a good view of them going in circles on the hill parking lot. Some black ice in spots. Current temp at 32 degrees. -

Earlier had icy snizzle and freezing rain (great for night time skating rinks). Snow has picked up, winds SSE. TV snow, but at least its visible. Current temp at 33 degrees. Don't know if the bands will make it to DC but hope springs eternal. One of the neighbors made a big snowman from clearing their driveway. -

I would just post a sticky giving guidance on how to interpret Miller B's at some latitudes. It would save a lot of white noise, silly emotion over snow and over analysis. -

Night Cap in SE DC...roads are covered again in snow slush and black ice. Was surprised because the precip is almost invisible. Temp now 31, down from today's high of 34. Plow trucks circling the neighborhood taking in the sight.
