Pretty stuff ain’t it. Hopefully we keep power.
Definitely hope we do keep power. We are making some biscuits and gravy now while we can. It’s coming down with big flakes.

Still absolutely pouring snow. I wonder how much I can rack up with already almost 10” on the ground? This is the most snow ive ever seen. Glad I brought my hunting boots!

Haven’t gotten up to take a good look at things but the snow that’s falling is very fine small flakes right now. Wind is also blowing it around like crazy.
NWS upped our totals for today and is going for an additional 8-12. Looks to be a snowy day setting up
Edit-Now it’s absolutely pouring huge flakes!!

Snow is coming down nicely right now, fairly small flakes, but everything is really whitening up.

I'm gonna have to get my batteries charged for the early morning and into lunchtime snowfall. I will probably hit the sack here soon. Hope to wake up around daylight to several inches and heavy snow falling. Hope all of us have better results than we are expecting. Radar sure looks full of moisture.

3k NAM sure looked pretty. Had 12-18 for a lot of Transylvania County. 12km was around 8-10. I would be pleased with either of those results.

HRRR seems to be getting better and better every run in regards to the snowfall potential

I know this much, if we stay all snow here in Transylvania then it’ll be 12+ easy. My goal is for double digits, but I’d be tickled with 8 inches, since I haven’t seen that before.
I have 3 buddy heaters with plenty of propane and we have a gas grill on the deck with plenty of food.

Cooking a big spot of spaghetti with some fresh French garlic bread. Just popped a Pilsner and have all systems go.

I went from 12-20 forecasted to 9-17, so still pretty insane here but that’s a big gap. Have had off and on flakes all day but no accumulation.

Snow is picking up here.

We are live from our place here in lake Toxaway! Headed to the store this morning to get some final things and then we will be ready for the storm. It is beautiful up here. We got in very late, but that didn’t stop our little man from getting us up bright and early.
It was a windy drive up to here and the driveway is pretty steep. I definitely don’t see how we will make it out Monday, but here’s hoping. Also have our fingers crossed to keep power. Looking forward to looking upstream today to see how our system looks and is performing

Can’t wait to read the AFD from the NWS. I’d imagine warnings would be going out tonight or in the morning?

I just have a feeling this is gonna rack up quickly. With temps in the 20s for the duration of the event, it’s gonna be crazy to watch 12+ hours of snowfall. Definitely something I’ve never seen before. I just checked the NWS hourly forecast grid and it had right at 18” for our area and that’s at around 3200 feet. I’d be fine if half of that occurred.

Heading up to Lake Toxaway later this afternoon from Birmingham. Got a few buddy heaters and flashlights ready in case we lose power (fingers crossed we don’t).
Really looking forward to the trip. Transylvania county seems to be in a great spot of enhanced totals on just about all models. Will keep y’all posted on everything. Good luck to all!

GFS absolutely crushed the mountains. What a run!

GSP had 16.4 inches in my hourly forecast grid that was updated in the afternoon package. Hard to imagine seeing half of that in real life. Wow

Morristown just pulled the trigger for the mountains on their border counties.

So I've already starting contingency planning for Sunday/Monday. I'll be hosting guests at both of our rentals. Not sure out of town guests will be leaving as currently scheduled.
I sure hope we make it out some point Monday. Our owners of who we are renting for are adamant that the community has a plan and budget for snow storms, but this may not be what they are used to expecting. I’ve chased a lot of storms and been lucky to never get stuck.

Would love to selfishly hear some of yalls guesses for lake toxaway? If we can find a war to stay mostly snow then it may get silly. This thread is awesome. Wish I lived up here with you Mountain folks.

GFS out to 72 seems to have better thermals to snow for mountains.

10 inch mark has been hit. Get a few 11-11.5 inch readings in spots but I believe that’s where wind has made it deeper than it is. I keep going back to the same spot.
