It may happen that way, but I do not agree at all that that is all we may see.  This has the potential to be a good winter storm.  This is a much bigger threat IMO than Oct of 2011 was. And we are already midway through November.

Good trends and a good chance.

We have TOO long for this to reverse trends! Seen it so many times! We get sucked in, and then... Well a picture is worth a 1000+ words in the Mid Atlantic and weather models! But if it trends better and better, well then I like this winter already!

All this rain and it's suddenly going to break dry when cold? It's November so there's probably something about it there but it would be a good sign for the Winter if we could get a first snowstorm in about 10 days.

We just need a continuous set of storminess, which has not been too difficult this year. I think we had one dry set right in July and then never looked back. Timing means everything and the more opportunities we have, the better. We get some blocking to slow the cold exit.... we get the snow. We do not need any storm in 10 days to make me feel we do not have good signs! There are so many good signs every Met, outside the NWS, has been pointing to a snowy winter.. that is PLENTY of signs! :)

So basically what the last few posts have told me is that early snow means a pretty boring winter overall.

    Pass.

Snow is never a super easy thing so you have to take what you get. The flip. In 89 may have been the Nino that came on strong at the beginning of 1990 if I remember correctly. We can't control the weather so let it be and enjoy every flake no matter when...

Big November snows have happened.  Here's Capital Weather Gangs article on the 1987 Vet day storm. The old saying'  it won't stick ...its been too warm lately ' fails even in  November lol.

    I also remember 1989 ? I think . In Baltimore we got a white Turkey day .

November  1953 was pretty big snow as well esp n+w . Dont have my Kocin book but I'm sure that's the year

Even in Richmond, we had a sleety snowy mess cover the ground. 89 was a stange year down there. Most snow in December and bitter cold. That was the FL to Myrtle Beach white Christmas year. January it flipped warm and never went back. https://www.weather.gov/ilm/ChristmasSnow1989

What exactly does winterizing a lawn mower entail? I’ve had mine for 7.5 years and have never done anything to prepare it for winter. I pull it out for the first mow in the spring, and the leftover gas doesn’t cause any issue with starting up.

Probably should have been more specific. I have a Zero Turn mower. I get under the mowing deck and scrape off all the grass that may have stuck to it, sharpen the blades, change the oil, and then make sure I use Stabil gas stabilizer in the gas and run it for 10 minutes. I also power wash it (only time I get the whole thing wet). Then I pull the snow blower and generator out and start them. Pull the mower  deep into the garage and put the snow blower and generator in front of it. All done! I do the same for the Lawnmower. You can also drain all the gas, but I just put some Stabilizer in it and run it for a bit, clean the grass from underneath, sharpen the blade, and change the oil. That is winterizing!

Now uh...there's talk in the ENSO thread about how the warmth is going from west to east...as opposed to starting from east and draining west like it did in years like 2002 and 2009...Now, wha6 do we want, ideally? West-central based El Niños? (And what happens in the basin-wide and east based events? Any duds?)

That is not good. Looks like we got Nino
