Bottomed out at -1 this morning. Not much of a recovery today with a high of 4 above, and a struggle to make above zero tomorrow!

Down to 19 now with CAA in full swing. We won’t make it out of the low single digits tomorrow or Thursday. 

Overachieved to a high of 43 today and lost about 2” of snow depth. The cold front just barreled through and we’ve dropped 8 degrees the past hour to 35.

Weirdly enough same here. 28.5” on the season and we average 56”

Final total might add another tenth or so but this should about wrap it up. Very pleased with how this event turned out imby. Snow depth back up to 7” with 28.5” season to date.

Minneapolis is ending up on the winning side of the sharp eastern cutoff. 2.6” as of noon which was the upper forecasted amount. The heaviest snow of the event moved in around noon and is just wrapping up now so I think 4-5” will be around where we end up. 

Snow started shortly after 5 this morning. Well ahead of the 8-9am start time pegged by the nws. 

Been super busy with work and family life the past week and haven’t had time to visit this weather board….but man am I sweating the gradient tomorrow. The NWS official forecast for Minneapolis is 1-5” and I gotta say that’s probably about as refined as you can get with the eastern cutoff basically imby. 
 

Hoping to get at least an inch to make up for the snow that melted/compacted yesterday. 2” would be great, while those on the west end of Lake Minnetonka probably end up with 5”

-17 as I took the dog out before leaving for work. Couple hours of radiational cooling left to go. 

Waited to hear from Bo, looks like he got a couple feet of snow. 

Daytime high of -4 in Minneapolis. Tonight we make a run at -20.

About 2” of very powdery snow fell overnight and today along with strong northerly winds and falling temperatures.
 

Days like today and tomorrow make me question why I choose a career where I work outside.

I’ve got blizzard warnings south and north of me. Not sure I’ve ever seen that before. 

Minneapolis is further from Chicago then Columbus….just sayin 

This has been a fun thread to follow. Congrats all. We don’t typically get rates like that in the upper Midwest. Sucks snow doesn’t have much staying power down there.

Latest obs at the airport are -8. TNT needs to keep with the most up to date weather obs.

Coldest NHL game in the modern era starts in 30min at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis. It’s already -8

December 2021 in Minneapolis was a mixed bag with lots of snowfall and winter weather pared with a rapid thaw and a historic outbreak of severe weather and winds in the middle.  
 

24 days featured a snow-depth of least 1” with a maximum of 12” on the 11th after the first large winter storm of the season brought 11.8” of accumulation.

Total monthly snowfall was 21.1” not counting the duster we got today which will add a few tenths to that number. This is 9.8” above average for the month. 1.95” of liquid equivalent precipitation fell which is 0.78” above average. 17 days featured snowfall.

We end the month with the first real arctic outbreak of the season, and temperatures not forecasted to rise above zero for ~36 hours. 

I’m at DIA waiting for a connecting flight back home. There was a wall of smoke just north of the airport. If it drifts this way there will be a ground stop.

Absolutely devastating situation unfolding.

After 2 days of snow, looks like 1 1/2-2'+ of snow fell around my town, and the higher terrain. A good 2 day run just in time for the cold weather. Skiers, and snowmobilers got something to play in now.  

I’ve got friends up in Lutsen right now having the absolute time of their life with all the fresh snow. Definitely a good few days for the north shore.

At 11:45pm the temperature at MSP has fallen to 0 for the first time this season. 

Finished with 2.2” in Minneapolis. 4-4.5” otg and a little over 22” season to date. 

FWIW for the 12/10 storm, models had a big north push up to nowcast time and the heaviest band of snow ended up a few counties north of forecasted 24hrs earlier.
