  1. ITT: A bunch of weenies who should move to Msp if they want snow otg in a large city. Haven’t had bare ground since 11/29
  2. Deep snowpack allowed for ideal radiational cooling with a low of -1F overnight. The car thermometer read -6F as I drove to the ski hill away from the urban area. Snow must be settling and compacting, the airport is only reporting a 16” depth now.
  3. Everything going the way of deep winter in my neck of the woods right now.
  4. The official storm total for Minneapolis finished with exactly 15” of new snow. This is now the 3rd snowiest July 1 - January 5th period on record with 48.2” to date. This is the 2nd largest snowstorm I’ve experienced since moving to Minneapolis, the first being the April 13-16 2018 blizzard which put down 15.8” Snow-depth is somewhere between 16-20” imby. Lots of compacting due to the heavy nature of much of the recent snowfall. The sidewalk canyons remind me of February 2019 when we received 40” of snow and depths peaked around 24” Since December 1st we’ve received 3.10” of liquid equivalent water. All in the form of snow and most of it locked up in the snowpack.
  5. Snow finally stopped. I see blue sky, spotter near my office is reporting 16.5”
  6. I’m a little suspect of MSP only reporting a trace of snow between midnight and 6am. Its still snowing and we’ve picked up another half inch at least since I woke up at 530am. Either way, incredible storm, massive over performance and the snowpack here is nothing short of impressive.
  7. Well that extended about locks in 40F and overcast for the first half of May.
  8. Bone dry in summer, buried in snow in winter. I’ll take it. Our seasonal average is 51.2” which we are rapidly approaching. Over 45” on the season now.
  9. It won’t stop puking snow in Minneapolis. 6” at the midnight observation. Probably an additional 3-4” since then, roads are a complete mess. Trees are bending under the weight of all the snow and we’ve smashed past 40” on the year in the first week of January.
  10. Got pretty serious here for a little while. Round 1 is wrapping up imby, eyeballing ~4” with another 3-4” coming round 2.
  11. Top shelf stuff most of the morning and into the early afternoon. Some sleet mixing in but mainly snow imby. Drove over to the east side of St. Paul around 1030am and it was Lafayette during 2011 groundhog blizzard all over again.
  12. Mood dust with a touch of freezing drizzle ahead of the 4-8” tonight.
  13. 6.8” to get to 40” on the season. Will we get it this round? NWS thinks so.
  14. We can’t seem to get any precipitation during the spring/summer months but have had no problem in winter. Cards just fall that way sometimes I guess.
  15. Feeling confident of another 4”+ this upcoming week to start the new year. Ganoderma Zonatum weather if you look at the extended.
  16. I’ve been quietly watching the system coming up early next week. The metro has been riding the line between cold rain (GFS) and warning criteria snows (Euro) MSP pulled the trigger on a WSW today for 3-7”. Personally I think there’s a big divide per usual between northern and southern ends of the metro with 3” south and 6-8”+ north. Been fun to track but wish there was more potential across the subforum to aid the discussion.
  17. Pretty remarkable difference up here from a majority of the subforum. Reached a high of 37 yesterday, stuck in the 20s today. Snow depth hanging around 8” and we picked up 0.4” of snow overnight.
  18. MSP has been below zero since 9:08PM on 12/21 and that was just a few hour stretch of 0-1 degrees otherwise it’s 12/20 5:53PM when we dropped below zero. Impressive for this early in the year to have 48+ hours below zero.
  19. Winds finally are starting to get going in the city. Visibility dropping and drifting beginning.
  20. Interstate 90 was closed between Albert Lea MN and Rapid City SD last night. That’s over 500 miles of interstate! Wind and drifting was a nonfactor in the city. Temperature stayed steady around -11/-12 all night.
  21. Dreaded midnight high of -4F at MSP. Daytime high of -6F, currently at -11F
  22. Starting to blow and drift pretty good here. The stuff coming off the trees is falling like new snow. -8F gusting to 33mph
