  1. Christmas gift idea? (Though the precipitation shield doesn’t really hammer Morris County [emoji2371]) .
  2. Isn’t that interesting how it happens? .
  3. Don't tell them that! j/k... snowing @MMU while I'm sitting on a Teams Conference call. Nice ambience.
  4. I feel like our running theme the past few years is who can call out Winter's Over the quickest. I feel like someone just said we're running out of days in December... it's December 7th. Enjoy the journey.
  5. Pretty, but I'm thinking of the flood potential and wet basement looking at that.
  6. *and late 1980s/early 1990s here. Those were fun.
  7. Not a met - but why does everyone fall for the long-term forecasts every year? It's a wash, rinse, repeat every single season. I get the vague trends - but after seven days, things just fall off a cliff and they *seem* to change on a whim.
  8. I'm not denying or questioning anything anyone is saying or forecasting here - I'm not a meteorologist, just a hobbyist from having TWC on a loop as a child with Jeanetta Jones and John Hope - but why do we throw in the towel earlier and earlier every year? Everything is always so negative. I hope it snows, too, but who knows. Just let it play out.
  9. Doesn't it seem a tad early to be spiking the ball on this? I know everyone likes to call something and be correct about it, but it seems way too early to be right. Then again, 50/50 chance.
  10. https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2020/05/04/record-cold-east-mothers-day/ I'm sure this has been posted already, but... Thanks for being here in January.
  11. Explain this to me like I'm five years old.
  12. Hey guys, figured I'd check in a month into quarantine. Quick question, and maybe it's already been asked and pondered: Do you think the reduction in pollution and emissions will meaningfully impact next winter at all? I've noticed how clear the air is, and you probably have, too. Thanks!
  13. This is like when we were kids here (in the 1980s and early 1990s)... warm when there's moisture; when it's freezing cold, it's dry. .
  14. Kidding aside, is winter over here? I just checked in here for the first time in a few weeks. I’m hoping that it doesn’t pop in for a visit in four weeks and leave our baseball fields a muddy mess into April. .
  15. I positively adored the February 1994 storms, along with December 30, 2000, for the snowcover and plowins. The more recent one that was far more bonkers in my neck of the woods (MMU) was March 7, 2018.
  16. Yes... I drove to school that day, and it was supposed to turn to rain, IIRC. It did for about ten minutes prior to my 8 am class, and then snow again right after that. We had around a foot. .
  17. My favorites overall, without going into detail, are: 2/8/1994 - 2/11/1994, solely for being 11 years old after the nothing winters preceding it. January 1996, because of course December 30, 2000, because it was the first big one since 1996, and it happened to bullseye Morris County; 18" in 6 hours. February 5, 2001, because it over performed and was very pretty January 2011, since we had some pretty good thunder snow February 2014, as we had a big front-end thump, and then sleet later on January 2016, which was more than 1996 in my neighborhood March 7, 2018, recent, but amazing to see. Devastated my neighborhood with 20"+ of heavy, wet snow bringing down trees and power lines, but the daytime rates in March were amazing to see from the perspective of a weather enthusiast.
  18. That which shall not be spoken.
  19. Me too! IMAGINE if social media were around that winter. People would have lost their minds. .
  20. I remember several things about that Tuesday, February 8th: We got to school (I was in sixth grade), and watched the snow start in English class, then moved on to Gym class, where I remember opening the door to the outside of the locker room and it being just a wall of white. Later that evening, when I got home, I remember my dad (who had told me many previous times that any snow in the preceding years was “not a real storm” and would regale me with stories of the 1960-1961 and proceeding winters) mentioning how coming home on Route 3 was an absolute nightmare (he had a briefcase cellphone at the time), and that he hadn’t seen something like this in years. He then told me, “Now this is a real winter.” Again, my all-time favorite. It had everything; snow, ice, record cold, long duration, plus I was 11. .
  21. One of my all-time favorite winter sequences. I was 11, so you can imagine how awesome it was. I remember watching the February 8th event from several classes. .
