Yes
Thanks for the clarification. I thought we originally talked about Thursday to Friday, but the GFS map showed that it was done by Thursday afternoon.

What is the timing on this possibility?

I don’t want this possible event to ruin the potential of a big boy on Friday/Saturday, but if it lays down 3” followed by cold, I’m not going to turn my nose up at it.
Agreed!

The gfs runs twice before the 00z euro runs again. 2 chances or it's over
Wasn't the GEFS pretty good for this weekend?
-
On January 8th, the GFS had 40" totals showing up by January 23rd. The big ones get sniffed out early...
I'm feeling pretty good about the Euro and Ensembles. Hopefully the GFS will come back around. I'll gladly sacrifice the Thursday thing for what the Euro is showing.

So sad that the Euro is the only one showing it. Meh.
The tables sure have turned...

I'm wondering if the models won't have an accurate idea of next weekend until yesterday's storm is out of the picture. Also, the GFS might just be waiting until 48 before game time like on Jan 3rd.

If this late week deal doesn't remind you of how we scored bread and butter in JF 2014 or FM 2015.... you didnt live here or you were down in Avanti's basement eating cheetos
I like your excitement about 14 and 15. I really don’t remember specific storms those years, just that we had several hits, and some fairly big. Those were 2 great winters here, which is why, in my opinion, so many people were disappointed in ‘16 when we only got 1 Storm (even though it was of epic proportions). I could be wrong, but I remember reading that we had blocking due to the displaced PV rather than a -NAO for much of 2014 and/or 2015.

We have some light snow and 34 degrees currently in Fairfax.

We just flipped to sleet. It’s already killing my 3” of fluff.

I just took a bitter cold Jebwalk through the neighborhood. We have really small flakes, but still snowing moderately in Fairfax/Herndon area. I measured 2.5 “ on the deck. No sleet yet.

I remember an ice storm in the early 90’s where it rained at 16. Maybe 1994? An inch of ice everywhere and UMD started classes a week late.
Yeah that was Jan or Feb 1994. Everything shut down around here due to extremely frigid temperatures after the ice. My parents were here, but I was in Louisville where we had 13” snow and were supposed to get 1”. It was too cold for ice melt.

It’s always been confusing and frustrating that intercoure and bird in hand, PA are so close.
17/6, awaiting to enjoy whatever falls today.
It’s a quick trip from Blue Ball to Intercourse to Paradise, PA.

Is there any chance of this being like the mid-January 2000 surprise that didn’t change to rain?

That’s pretty far from Intercourse, PA isn’t it?

Just below Blue Ball, PA sits Intercourse. Gotta love the towns in Amish country.

Eric Webb says that actual snow is over-performing down south- verifying closer to HRRR. Good news for us, maybe…

You have to separate DT personally and professionally. Personality doesn’t change that he’s knowledgeable.
Before I found this forum in 2015, I used to follow him and watch all his videos. They were really informative for amateur snow lovers like me. However, he was pretty obnoxious at that point and he had a hard time admitting when he was wrong. It’s weather. No one gets this right all the time. However, I think he’s really gone off the deep end over the past few years and his forecasts are pretty far off. Even for the past couple of storms that seemed fairly easygoing get in range.
