  1. this belongs in the winter not now lol. I am seeing some unpleasant years (for spring and summer) showing up in analogs, like 1996. I wonder if this increases the chances of a wetter and more humid summer coming up with not much dry weather or heat. High lows, low highs, lots of humidity and rain ugh. The worst part is not having 2-3 sunny days in a row. I dont mind cool weather as long as it's sunny and dry. Whats causing all this storminess instead of just having cool highs drop in from the north and block storms to our west and south? Is that where the hot Gulf of Mexico factors in?
  2. the local mets keep talking about this warm up starting in early May (70s over the weekend), why cant that last? Also, since storms move from west to east, why cant heat move from west to east too (like that heat thats just starting up in California.)
  3. They used to be better. Remember Live Aid and We are the World and Freddie Mercury?
  4. it was snowing pretty hard, not sure why it wasn't sticking in the city. Jersey Shore had 6-8", JFK had 4-5"
  5. thats what you get when you cram close to 2 billion people literally on top of each other. that and lots of pollution
  6. Happy Easter and Passover everyone!!
  7. sure, it's basically a pre-existing condition. Where there is air pollution more people have asthma. More densely populated areas have more air pollution because of car exhaust (NO2). It's been halved because of all the restrictions now but a lot of people already had asthma from before.
  8. posted this on the political side too Both the UN and the American Journal of Microbiology and Dr Fauci of our CDC have all said that China needs to end these nasty dirty "wet markets" on exotic mammals. I saw a video where thousands of these disgusting bats were being showed off in a slaughter shop- the same ones where this virus supposedly came from. We need to stop encroaching on lands that belong to wild animals or we will keep having these pandemics. Dr. Rick Knabb who was the head of the National Hurricane Center said that unless we put a check on our population growth, climate change, pandemics and pollution will ALL be much harder to fight. Ironically our pollution levels have gotten a lot better because of this pandemic. I hope we learn our hard learned lessons and hold onto that after the pandemic ends. Found this out the other day, did you know that 8 MILLION people a year die from pollution?!
  9. I've heard there have been an extra 1,000 "unexplained deaths" this month alone- people who died at home without getting any medical care.
  10. we had 5" here in April 1996 on this day, but that one just missed the urban areas over a foot of snow and blizzard conditions in Suffolk County.
  11. extremes 1991 and 2010 vs 1982....... 90s on the same date vs a true cold blizzard
  12. the new 15 min test is a lot less invasive and much faster
  13. baseball season is still months away lol
  14. Thanks! Do you have any data about that year in the 1860s where NYC got between 90-100 inches of snow, it was just before official record keeping started.
  15. looks like they wanna be outside! They'd rethink that if they saw a cat staring back at them.
  16. weird that JFK had a foot of snow in March 1993- slightly more than NYC. I wonder what they would have had had it stayed all snow....the heaviest part of the storm was just getting going when we changed over. So Feb 1920 and Feb 1921 had back to back of those mixed monsters?
  17. Surprised that 2001-02 isn't at the top of your list....it was the only winter with all three winter months >40 on avg!
  18. The greatest sleet storm of all time must've been that three day affair in Feb 1922 that dumped 18" lol Funny that 2007 had two of the big ones.....with sleet storms being so rare. That second one got my door stuck lol.
  19. did you get any snow from the tax day noreaster?
  20. couldn't open my back door! had 5 inches of sleet after we had another sleetfest on V-Day!
  21. just wait until we get a zombie virus! (yes there is such a thing and -currently- it only affects ants.)
  22. I'm thinking that we are going back into a similar pattern wrt to our next few summers also (and next year will be near the peak of the 11 yr solar cycle of very hot summers.)
  23. talk about extremes.... it hit a low of 6 in 1888 and a high of 85 in 1990 on this date.... I remember that mid March heatwave very well.
  24. imagine if it was ALL SNOW. The other one I want to see is a redux of Feb 1921 ALL SNOW. check out the liquid equivalent of that storm lol. 5" = 50" of snow! what was going on back then that we had storms like those two?
